The new Maxima?
The new Maxima?
I've been wondering just up til now about anyone seen a shot of a new Maxima yet or is it already not out yet, cuz I was browsing on forum that I saw new concept of the 08 Accord, and a 08' Legacy and they look pretty good, just thought about the maxima, probably won't see anything for 09 possibly since the 07 just a minor facelift, how many year would that be before a new one comes, 09' or 10'?
Chances are theyll do a change in '09-'10. I suspect that with the generation change they'll drop in the VQ37HR like they will for the G35 and 350Z. Hopefully Nissan decides to make the Maxima sporty again and give it a transmission other than CVT.

yes im very disappointed with the 07 maxima...granted i drove an automatic one with the cvt transmission...but there was just no ***** to it....my 03 feels and drives alot faster than the 07...i hope they do something to make it faster...
Given the v6 power and luxury features (start button ignition bluetooth etc) from the new Altima and the BMW like performance of the G35 they really need to make the next Maxima something special or risk it really losing its place.

I know that Infiniti is planning on releasing the new G37 coupe for 08. I would say the changes they made to the max in 07 and the few they will make in 08are pretty much testing new things they are planning for the next generation, smoothing out things, kind of like how the 99 max was the odd child of the 4th gen. We'll see though, I agree with Irish. My suspicion is the next gen will have a VQ37, and put down about 290 hp, and weigh 400 lbs more than the 6th gen.
You can't realistically go much higher than 265 hp in a pedestrian family sedan without AWD. As of right now, the Maxima is FWD without even an optional limited-slip differential. That tells me something about what Nissan thinks of the Maxima, and what their plans are for it...

ES350: 272hp @ 6200
Lucerne: 275hp @ 5200
DTS: 292hp @ 5600
I'm sure there are still others. I suppose we can also argue whether these family sedans are "pedestrian," but they're definitely not sports sedans by any stretch of the imagination. Because of this, I left out the VW Passat (280 hp @ 6200) and Acura TL-S (280 hp @ 6200). I also left out the new Altima (270 hp @ 6000), and the Toyota Avalon (268 hp @ 6200) because they weren't "much" higher than 265 hp. My point is that 10 years ago, I remember people were saying the same thing about 220 hp in a FWD car, 10 years before that, it was 180 hp, etc. Yet, here we are today with FWD cars that easily exceed those numbers. Moreover, the surprising thing is that none of these cars are really known for having any driveability problems.
Fair points. But of all those cars, only the Avalon is really comparable to the Maxima anyway, and that car has practically the same power. As for the others, as you began to imply:
- The DTS is designed to be driven under the posted speed limit by octagenarians. It's also a much heavier car that not only needs the power but can smother a lot of torque steer.
- The Passat has to offer a 4cyl turbo and a VR6 for both FWD and AWD drivetrain configurations, and 280hp is how much power the VR6 engine makes. That's the only reason it offers 280hp with FWD -- it's not because they get a huge amount of benefit out of having that much power. Besides, the Passat is much sportier and WAY better sorted than the Maxima.
- The TL-S is also a better-sorted and more sport-oriented car than the Maxima, has relatively little low-end torque, and at least has a limited-slip differential available with the 6-speed manual.
I realize that there is no hard limit, and that advancing technology will help. But you have to admit that 265hp is starting to push it -- especially for Nissan, whose engine has a good amount of low-end grunt and whose FWD powertrains are plagued by torque steer as they are.

so wouldn't that be an optional limited slip differential?
HLSD was only an option with the 6-speed manual. There is no more 6-speed manual -- the only transmission option for 2007 is a CVT. Therefore, there is no optional limited-slip differential.

gotcha.

I wonder if you have to pay extra toll for "four axles" at tollbooths with it.

LMAO, this is too funny, yeah I got my electric bill, not so bad but gas bill, my god, just gave me a two alarm heart attack, no five alarm yet, unless I eat a lot of Carl's Jr and hit twice my age, then I'll have a five alarm heart attack
