We've kicked the question around for a while, as to which generation being the best. Some say 5th, some say 4th, many say 3rd. As a 4th gen owner I like the 3rd gen because when compared to the competion at the time it was an excellent car. But by the time the 4th gen got old all of a sudden it's being compared even by the car mags to Camry V6, Solara, and Accord. Is this really what Nissan compares their flagship to? If not, they had better change things around for 2003.

I just got the new Altima info in the mail. It looks nice, not ugly like the 5th gen. And many people buy on looks, so I think Altima will definitely hurt Maxima sales. Because most people don't know what a Maxima really is, they think of it as a Camry, Accord, etc., a family car. And now Altima boasts more interior room than a Camry. So people in the market will probably go for it.

What is a Maxima? As many models evolve, they retain hints of where they came from. For example, the kidney grilles of the BMW. What do any of the Maximas have in common with each other? Anything? We should have a 2002 Altima forum on this bbs so we can see what fellas who go to it think about the car. My guess is it relives the glory of the early 90's Pathfinder.

Fine, let it "hurt" Maxima sales. That just means that we can get better prices from Nissan trying to sell them, and with the larger engine, we can still hand the Altima it's ***.
