ok i want a new horn. last night some 90 year old man didn't hear me honking at him as he was merging into my car, and five minutes later some guy didn't hear me honking at him either cuz his system was cranked... what are the loudest replacement horns i can get my hands on?

--ohh don't say truck air horns, not down with the pull cord.

I think the hellas are but there are others out there. I used to have hellas on my truck and I used to move crowds with those things. Some lady was walking in the middle of the street one day here in Boston and she saw me comeing and acted like she didn't care. I got right up on her and layed on it. Me and my cousins were laughing our *** off.

That not true. They sell a kit for cars that connects to your existing horn wiring. Imagine a Maxima with a pullcord airhorn. Makes me think of BJ and the Bear.

would that just be overkill?

i think a horn should be functional in other words loud as hell...i wonder if that kit would be street legal on a car

It's street legal. Some of the guys here have them. Face it, we drive with some pretty dumb people on the roads. When I hit that horn in my truck, people moved. I had a small Toyota and people moved.

I put in a Hella 2-trumpet set
- about $25 from Susquehanna Motor Sports.

The Hellas are nice and loud [but not quite as loud as I'd hoped]
Also kinda on the shrill side
- I was wanting something with a bit more bass to it, like a semitruck.

I have seen other horns available in parts catalogs
but I've never heard them.

The install was pretty simple.
The hardest part was making the mount.
I left the stock horn in that's in front of the radiator.
I took off the horn that's to the left of the motor as you face the front of the car.
I used a piece of metal [a kind of "tie"]
that's supposed to be used for holding 2 pieces of wood together
[you can get at home depot or similar]
This piece would be kind of butterfly shaped if flat,
but it has a bend/twist in it.
I mounted the compressor and one horn to this
and kept the bracket that the stock horn was on
and mounted the other horn on that.
I bolted both pieces using the stock nut/bolt through the original hole.

Somebody has a nice how2 for mounting them behind the driver's side foglight.
It just looked like more trouble than where I put them.
But, if you have a supercharger, or intend to get one,
then that's about the only place where you'll have the room.

what I'd really like is a set of those forks in front like some garbage trucks have...
Just drive up, slip 'em under the offending vehicle, and flip it over behind you.
