Brakes

Guys,

Apologies in advance in this is already included in previous threads.

I'm in the market for some good brake pads for my 04 max. I keep hearing get the hawk hps', get the hawk hps...
While I'm at it, should I also replace the SS lines and rotors? or would the pads be suffice?

Thanks all.

If I am reading your post correctly, you already have stainless brake lines. If that is the case, then no, you do not need to replace them unless they are damaged. If you do not have the stainless brake lines already, it would not hurt to change the OEM lines out to stainless. It just makes the job at hand take longer because you will have to bleed the brake lines after installation. The rotors, depending on how many miles are on them, probably just need to be cut. You could buy a new set of rotors, install them, and then have your old ones cut and keep them for the next time you have to do your brakes. The Hawk pads are liked by the spirited drivers. There is a lot more information in the suspension and brakes sub-forum.

You probably don't need new rotors unless you're getting the dreaded shimmy when you brake at high speeds.

i personally have the bendix ones. doesnt cost too much, can find them in autozone and struss pretty easily and is pretty good relative to the cheapos from the same store. in addition, they are cut properly (generics are not, and often my dad shaves down the pads to fit them on) so they should fit over even new rotors (to OEM spec thickness).

i'd say change it all. change the pads (to hawk), rotors (to powerslot or brembo), and add the russell SS brake lines (if you dont have them). just my .02.
