well i own a 4th gen, so i probably get it a lot more then the 5-6th gen.
Just talking to a lot of people my age, 16-25 range, i get the comment,
"why do you even bother modding that thing" or "it has 4 doors and its fwd, theres no point"
I always answer with "if i wanted to build a stupid fast car, i would have bought a mustang/supra/camaro. but i wanted a car that can actually be driven all year, carry all my stuff, can still be fast and not attract attention from the wrong people"
After i say that they usually shut up, and if they dont i just ask..so uhmm what do you drive? alot of the time they are POS 80's rust buckets, so i really dont get why they make comments.
So how many of you get those type of comments?

"did mommy and daddy buy you that EVO?"
I used to get comments like that but not with my maxima. But rather my 86 Caprice equipped with a 325hp EFI mercruiser boat motor rollin on 17" soft 8's. I would just open my Chevrolet reference book and show them where a B-body GM 4door car actually weighs LESS than a Camaro/Firebird That usually shut em up real good.
Or I would just ask em if their rustbucket could cruise at 75mpg all day while getting 24mpg with ice cold AC blastin on 4 of your buddies

i dont own a maxima yet, but i'll prolly have enuuf money to get a 01 in the summer. used to own a mazda 626, sold it after a few months, then bought a 94 infiniti J30t and did intake, exhaust, headers and a kickin sound system. i went to a private school, but my parents work their *** off to send me there and i paid for all my own stuff.. i used to get comments like, why the hell do you waste your time modifying that old POS? or: cant afford a new fast, nice sounding car? mostly from 3-series, c-class, tiburon and is300 kids. my response was, how much did you pay for your car and how much did mommy and daddy pay? or so how much longer do you have to wait for mommy and daddy to let you void the warranty? most of these kids get these brand new cars for their 16th birthday.... makes you wonder if they'll ever learn the value of money and how hard it is to earn.
the funniest comment that i hear a lot is, "why don't you just get a honda?". of course this mostly comes from the younger crowd. i enjoy having a not so fast famliy car that sounds sweet as far as exhaust and audio is concerned, and has enough suspension work to hang with a few of the best. i love my 168 FWHP 4DSC!
This isnt dissing the max but this guy was actually giving me a compliment. Ok so I painted my calipers a bright blue about a month ago. So my roomate and I were pulling into my apt complex, waiting on the gate to open. A buddy is walking through the gate to his car and walks right past mine. He looks at my front wheel and goes, " Hey Huff nice brake pads!" Me and my roomate just look at each other completely puzzled by his comment. I finally caught on, kindly said thanks, and drove away giggling like a school girl trying not to pee my pants. We still randomly say "Nice brake pads!"
I have 196k miles and still enjoy carving through mountains and valleys... Works for me. W/o the suspension mods, I'd only have straightline fun. Personally, go-fast mods don't give the bang-for-buck I'm looking for, so I'll pass.

people usually shut up because my 3.5L 4Dr sedan will smoke their little civics and rsx what ever type they come with. and i can keep up with the 350Z and G35. theyre not much faster than my max.
try owning a 3rd gen...It's old enough to be outdated, but not old enough to be a classic.
I get a lot of comments about how old it is, especially when I could afford something much nicer. I don't care. It's fairly quick, handles well enough for a 4 door car, gets almost 30 mpg on the highway and it's totally paid for.

One of the guys at the shop I took it into asked me (helped me get the last bolt on the LTBII) "why a Nissan?" (guess he meant Maxima). I told him for what it was it was pretty quick. He said "yeah I drove it, it's not bad, what do you have done to it?"
"Nothing, drivetrain's completely stock."
"...Oh."
