something I'd like to see
I was watching speedvision last night and saw the act clutch drag wars something like that. First thing I noticed was alot of talons and eclipses that where street legal and running 10's. I saw fewer civics then ever before. What I did see was some older nissan cars well datsun to be exact like datsun 210's.
For once I'd like to see a maxima on there. I mean we have one of he 10 best engines around.
What do you guys think you could get out of one of these engines in the 1/4 mile?

The reason that they run 210's and civics and the like is because of the weight advantage. A Maxima has a distinct weight disadvantage.
Secondly, our oh so wonderfull VQ cannot take THAT much boost. The guys running 10-11s have to be putting out 600-800 HP, there is no way our aluminium block will handle that.
If a Max was moded with a RB26DETT or something like that it would be a good start, but I would prefer to run a skyline for the 4wd. Did you see how those 4wd Talons just took off?

Ahhhhh yes, my fellow Speedvision viewers!!!
I too watched the ACT drag racing event. Very sweet! I believe you can get a Max into the 12's. But getting it into the 11's or 10's will take an extra measure of engineering. I would say just to get into the 12's that you'd have to have a coil-over suspension, light weight wheels, and drag radials. Then as far as engine mods probably a SC/NoS combo or a big shot NoS. And for that combo to effectively compete you'd have to perform a slew of weight reduction tricks. Remove all carpeting in the car, including the trunk and its contents (spare, jack, etc.) Remove all seats, all seats! Remove the dash and replace it with a few dials to read critical engine data. Oh and you best start this conversion with a GXE with no sunroof. If you're lucky this combo may break into 11's. High 11's. And to go any faster will require opening up the block to strengthen the bottom end. Oh and while we're fantasizing about a Max to compete in drag racing, maybe a wheelie bar can shave some time from the 1/4 mile trip.
Hmmmm, then you can possibly use a 4th gen, and do the above engine mods to a 5th gen VQ30DE-k or possibly the new 3.5 VQ. Just a note to anyone interested in pursuing the above babble. It gets expensive very expensive!!!
