My 97 Maxima has been in a garage during the night and under a parking deck during the day for the past 4 years. Now it is moving to staying outside 24 hours a day in the sun. What do I need to do to protect it? I am going to wax it with some Turtle Wax, put Lexol on the leather, and Armor All on everything else. I also bought one of those shiny reflective things to go in the windshield. I will be getting either 20 or 35 tint in about a month. Would a car canopy do much good (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40544)? I know that would probably rot in a year but the replacement tarp is only $20. Is there anything else I need to do or change to keep my interior looking good?

Dare I ask why your baby is going outside for 24 hours a day? I have no suggestions, because I'm a moron and dont' know anything! I guess that's why I'm here...gotta learn about stuff somewhere, right? Good luck!

You could try a car cover.

umm, what can u possibly do?

Waxing would be nice, tint would reduce the heat inside the car, keep the leather a bit cooler... Put one of those heatshields by the front windshield... Park it in the shade? Also, if a bird ever $hits on your car, get it off FAST, because I had birds **** on my old max and these NY birds must be eating something toxic because I had permanent marks left on the spoiler, and in random placed on the hood and roof... Wash it like once a week.. u should be fine.

Those foldup things that you put on the inside of your windshield when you park the car so the interior doesn't get too hot. They really work, especially for my black car.

So it looks like I have it covered. A bird already **** on my car this morning so I guess I better get that off. My dad use to have the Maxima and he got the garage and parked in a parking deck at work but now its mine and it has to stay in the driveway when I am at home and in a parking lot when I am in school. What does everyone think about that Harbor Freight canopy?

I think the canopy is a great idea. Any type of protect from those harful UV rays is nice

I agree with Eric, those sun shade heat shields work extremely well. During the school year, I began to put it on to see how much of a difference it would make compared to not having one on at all.

I found out the car was much cooler, especially near the dash area. But I got a pretty expense shade cover...it has a really thick foil cover, and around it it's stiched in a sturdy blue canvas.
