I'm in a similar situation. These are the cars that you should consider...

I30 Replacement:

2002 TL-S Top of my list now. Auto is still faster than I35/auto 2002 Maxima. Any 0-60 times on Manual Maxima??? I thought the interior was very nice. The headrests are sweet. The exterior is clean and very classy. I genarally tend to associate class with being conservative, but everyone is different. Adding a set of 18s/19s will really set the car apart.

2002 BMW 330i. Skip the lux package($3500), sunroof, and auto. You should be able to pick it up for $35k(give or take a couple grand). The pleather seats look fine. This is a drivers car. Don't forget free maintenance.

2002 Audi A4. New body style is very very nice. 1.8T should produce at least 170hp. Not a rocket, but you can tweak it pretty far. Again, free maintenance.

2001 Audi S4. Don't click any options and you can pick it up for under $35k(maybe). No explanation needed here, just another drivers car.

C4 Replacement:

2001-2 S2000. This is the Anti-V8. If you are taller than 6ft I wouldn't buy it. This is the perfect poor man's weekend racer/cruiser.

Used Cobra 94+. Nice body style and HUGE aftermarket. This is the Civic of V8 tuner cars. Not my taste, but still a respectable C4 replacement.

Used C5. Shouldn't have a problem finding a good deal on a used 5th gen Vette.

Please excuse the 2 Honda choices, Honda builds a great vehicle. You can't blame some of the owners on your distaste for the brand.

Type S is nice. I hate that "bowling ball" marble trim though. I'm sure that can be changed out though. 5 speed automatic and front wheel drive puts it out of the same category as BMW and Audi though.

The 2002 A4 is a really nice car. That new 3.0 is really nice engine. Order that with the 6 speed quattro and you ahve nice sports sedan. Or go for the 1.8T and chip.

I really like the 2002 A4. If I get it when it debuts in
October, I want a 6 speed quattro with the optional
sports package. Since I intend to drive it everyday, can
anyone tell me how reliable the A4 would be as a commuter
car? I was told that Audi's are high maintenance (and
expensive, too)!

Wow really nice feed back Zam and the rest of you. I don't know about the s2000 being a poor mans car at 33K? Would be a nice choice though.

And you can't go from a corvette to Ford, ugghhh. lol Its not much faster either if at all, but aftermarket is huge for it, that is true. The sound of those cars are great though. Like nothing else.

There is not a wide choice of 330i's here and most in the 40s!!! I would love the BMW, but the sedan will be for family use so needs an auto. Shift tronic is made for guys like us stuck with this problem And auto BMW doesn't work for me. BMWs should only come with 5spds and 6spds

Lexas called today, only offered $1000 off the IS 300 with $1000 down, so its 34.5K now. This car has every option including the heated seats.

The TL is looking better and better, that bright blue is killer. The barble trim is funny, wonder I you can change it our for wood, or just get carbon fiber overlays. I'm going to drive it again. 31K before even talking down the price is nice also.

You have an I30 ZAM? I'm thinking of trading mine before the I35 hits (Resale value) Its really sad because as this is only the 2nd year of this model and they are doing us in like this with the I35 (though its uglier then the I30T) and a mid class Nisan, the new altima to slap around a 33 to 35K luxury car. Want to move way from nissan for a while. They say don't get the first year of a new model, but at nissan, the 2nd year is the last, lol.

I am true beliver in the IS300 now. My wife was beging to get one so we traded her ES in on one 2mos. ago. The car is all that, the gauge cluster looks like a tachometer which is phat to def an that lil' booger got some pep. I have put off mods to my car to finish hers. I already have the L-Sportline door sills and the type III wheels and springs. That is only the begining. Check this site out for tuning stuff www.lsportline.com

here's an idea....
Look for a mint 325i or 325is
You can find a mint one for probably way under 20k
Now you have like 10k or so for mods which are readily available for these cars...Plus, its not "trendy" like the IS or boring like i feel all acura's except for the integra and nsx are...The only downside is that you wont have the realatively cheap maintenance that is associated with japanese cars...I like bmw because they have practical luxury, not too cushy and old-manish like Mercedes, and they have VERY good all around performance. Besides that, check the build quality of a bmw compared to the acura or lexus. you will notice imperfections and "cheapness" that you wont find in the bmw...Maintenance wise, you get a loaner with bmw service like the premium japanese brands, plus you can wander the lot and drool at M5's : )

Anyways, just my opinion....

Im pro german today because my mom just picked up a MINT 944s2 cab.
its pretty sweet
