So theblue and I went to NYIRP last night for test and tune. This past week I bought a set of stock GXE steel wheels from Shadow, with almost new stock Bridgestones on them.

I didn't know how much, if any better I would do with them, since the steel wheels are pretty heavy. I put them on Thursday night, and the car really didn't feel all that faster, but I think that's because I put my other 2 Monsoons (100lbs!) in the trunk.

So, my first run was a 14.777, not bad. Better than I was expecting for my first run on these tires. I now have to shift into 4th well before the finish line. With my 17's I hit about 6300 rpm's in 3rd at the line, but now 4th isn't a choice.

So, I followed that with a 14.62, a 14.78 (Shifted into 4th at 5800rmp's and lost 3mph!), 14.68 and then my final run of the night...

R/T -- .690
60' -- 2.244
330 -- 6.174
1/8 -- 9.442 @ 76.01
1000 -- 12.240
1/4 -- 14.599 @ 95.03

Woo hoo! I broke into the 14.5's by just changing the wheels.

FYI - It was 77 degrees, Humidity 61%, Barometer 29.59

That last run was at 8pm, as a 9 second station wagon blew the oil pan and covered the track with oil. I had to be back in Buffalo at 10 so I had to leave...if it would have cooled down maybe I could have done better!

Who know's...after installing the cat back and UDP, maybe 14.4's?

Congrats man!

That's really great..14.5 (we'll omit the '9's ) on a Maxima with the simple bolt-ons! Isn't that Mustang V8 territory now?? So what are you 0-60 times? Around 6.2s?

Well, the week before I was running consistant 14.8's with a best of 14.81. My best before that was a 14.73 @ around 93.

So I think the wheels dropped about .2s and added 2mph.

mAdD MAX: I have no idea what my 0-60 times are. I would think mid to low 6's.

Congrats!!! This just shows why I chose to go with lightweight 16" wheels. I like to be fast all the time I knew 14.5s were attainable with minimal mods, no worthless chip, or drag radials. Good job. Once it gets cooler here in Kansas City (upper 90s for the past 1.5 months), I'll go back to the track.

What was your launch and shifting technique? I see you have a stillen muffler...14.5 is very impressive. I ran 15.1 stock dragging stereo with me before but now I'm only running 15.4s with a Y pipe and cone.

Yeah, I know my 17's are still slowing me down, but I don't street race, and know that I can run 14.7 with them on is good enough for me.

Its been hot here too...upper 80's to 90's the last few times that I've been at the track. Last night was a little cooler thankfully. I'm sure that helped a good deal.

ericdwong: My launching is not right yet. This was my first time with these tires and wheels. theblue can get a 2.1 and 2.0 60' times with the same setup as me...and if I can do that then I'll be doing a lot better!

I take every gear to the redline. I tried shifting early one run last night, and it was my worst run of the night!

Nah, he posted in another thread...the 13.9@100 one.

I don't think he did better than 14.7's. That was the pipe that I gave him, and I really don't think it will help him out all that much. It wasn't in great condition (which is why I gave it to him for free!).

His trap speeds were 2mph higher though.

However, this didn't help him, as he lost every race to me again!

There were some really nice cars at the track...one 2k1 5sp stock Max that hadn't heard of the org (theblue told him about it) that was running 15.5's and a bunch of GTP's. The stock ones were running 14.8's and 14.9's. There is one of them that ran a 14.02 on his first run! But he's got a smaller pulley, intake, exhaust and who knows what else!

Awesome ET! I wouldnt have thought a 14.5 would be possible with a 2.24 60 ft. My car wont hit a 14.5 with a 95 mph trap either. I have to be over 96.

Just wait till winter and Ill be youll be hitting 14.3's.

Ha ha! Thanks. However, when winter rolls around I'll have my snow tires on and be trying to stay out of ditches. We dont' get to race year round in Western New York

However, when fall rolls around I should see some 50 degree days.
