As many of you know I previously stated interest in selling/parting out my car. I've made some decisions and am now going to see what the options for me are. Anyways, my main reason for doing this is actually the fact that I think I'm moving to a different step in my life. One focused more on business, and less on cars and stuff. I love my Maxima, but driving clients in it is sometimes embarrassing due to it's loudness, rough ride, and inability to access certain areas due to its height. I'm going to do one of the following soon:

-Part the Maxima out and keep it as a stock loaded 5spd
-Find someone to straight up trade my mod'd Maxima for a loaded SE or I30(t) of newer model year and less mileages
-Find someone to trade my mod'd maxima for a similarly equipped stock maxima or I30 and have them give me some cash for the mods.

Currently I really don't want another car other than the maxima/i30 line, but I am open to other offerings. However, at this point I'm focussing my financial energy on business and not on the car so I really don't want to spend more money being that my first option would warrant me money after the car has been part'd out. There are no cars for less money that come close to the maxima/i30.

If you are interested in trading, or know someone that is (it's not really trading due to used car tax, but basically I sell you mine, you sell me yours) please let me know.

Please do not post, "I got first dibs on the exhaust if you part out." or anything like that because they just flood the post. I will post at a later date what I'm offering if that's the choice I make.

aww

It would suck to see that car be parted out, that's one of the nicest cars on the org.

Yeah I've thought about just getting the quieter apex ws and H&R springs, but I don't know if I want to drive it that high with that much fendergap.

Personally, I think you should keep it and go with a quieter exhaust and H&Rs because you've apparently put a lot of time, effort, and $$$ into making your Max so nice. I know the H&R fendergap is hideous compared to a perfect even flush drop but hey, it's still better than a stock Max fender gap. Just my $.02. Good luck with your decision.

Go with this decision. Instead of H&R, maybe try coilovers so you can adjust your height.

I agree with Kev. Your best option might be coilovers with Konis. You can get softer springs to go on the coilovers and set the konis a little soft. That way you can adjust your ride height and not have too stiff of a ride to begin with.

Of course, this means putting more $$ into the car, which you are trying to avoid...

Stay with your tight ride. I dont want to see that in anybody else's hands. Liek what was said earlier, switch to a quieter exhaust, and get coilovers. But whatever you do, good luck.

coilovers running at my height (over 3" DROP) are going to be rough no matter what. How's the ride with the Sprint's? I've seen not too great lowering from Sprint though, similar to that of H&R's and Eibachs

The car can be made "presentable" to clients

- Remove intake setup for K&N drop-in and/or OSCAI
- Change exhaust for stock or custom exhaust with silence as a priority (there are plenty of threads on this)
- Exchange springs for H&R for softest, lowered ride
- Remove body kit for cash
- If the wheels call too much attention, exchange them for OEM 5th gen 17" SE rims + cash.
- If carbon-fiber dash calls too much attention, remove it for woodtrim
- If pedals call too much attention, swap for OEM + cash

Keep the nice color, save yourself from taxes, it would still be fast (ECU, K&N/OSCAI, y-pipe, custom exhaust), and handle well but less harsh (FSTB, RSB, H&R + Tokicos)
and you'd have cash from parting the other stuff out. Maybe go get a custom leather interior to make it seem nicer to clients.

Maybe not with a stick shift, or maybe not as new as the 4th gens, but as far as being nice for clients, how about:
(I went to autotrader, picked a make model < 50mi, $15k)

Acura Legend or Vigor
Audi 200 (turboed)
Infiniti Q45 or J30/J30t (leaves you all the mods the 300ZX crowd has available)
Lexus ES300 or LS400
Lincoln MkVII
Saab 900SE Turbo or 9000
Subaru SVX
(I'll spare you the Toyotas and VWs)
Volvo 940,960,850,S70(it turned up in my area)

Maybe these cars aren't as moddable as the 4th gen, but if that's not your focus, what's that matter?

Brian-

I think you'll have to get use to the idea of your car riding higher, regarless of what you get. The Sprint springs are the lowest you can get. When you lower your car, you compromise the suspension and geometry. The car wasn't designed to sit lower. It was made to ride smooth and soak up bumps with lots of suspension travel. When you lower the car, the aftermarket springs have a much higher spring rate which will make them harsh plus you've got much less travel. Only BMW seems to know how to get this combo right straight out of the factory.

I wouldn't recommend Konis. Even on the softest setting, they are rather harsh (I have Suspension Techniques springs). I'd go with KYB GR-2s (last longer than Toks and are much cheaper).

I'd get rid of the muffler and put the stock one back on with a nice tip. I put on a nice and tasteful 3" stainless tip and painted the muffler semigloss black. It makes for a much cleaner appearance. There is NO aftermarket muffler that will be quiet with a Y-pipe. That's the hard truth. I had the HKS muffler and the drone was very annoying (y-pipe, B-pipe) and this was suppose to be the quietest muffler out. Simply putting on the stocker quited things down dramatically and I was no slower in the 1/4 (actually a little quicker).

Get rid of the large wheels in favor of some 16s or 17s. As we all know, larger wheels, low profile tires, and heavier rims all make for a rougher ride.

Here's all the stuff you could sell off your car:

Stillen 5 Piece Aero Kit / 5Zigen GT8 17" Rims / Nitto NT555 ZR-W 235/45/17 Tires / Suspension Techniques Modified Springs / Tokico Blues /Greddy Catback Exhaust / Cattman Y-Pipe / Random Tech 2.5" Straight Through Cat Converter / PR Cold Air Intake Adapter / Stillen ShortRam Intake with Velocity Stack / GForce 96 ECU (Testing for Maximadriver.com/Cheston) / Stillen Carbon Fiber Dash / Cut Shift Handle / Autolite Titanium Spark Plugs / B&M Carbon Fiber Shift **** / Razo Carbon Fiber Pedals / JL 12W3 12" / Kenwood 650 Watt Amp

You'd have plenty of cash from selling all these parts. You wouldn't have to worry about not being able to park in your garage, the car will still handle good (FSTB, RSB), be fast (intake, Y-pipe), and the car will still look good (tint, clear corners and red and clear tails). You would loose the loudness (exhaust, system), and again, you'd have plenty of cash in your pocket from selling these parts.

I hope you stay with the Maxima family though Brian, whatever you choose to do. It'd be a shame to loose a Maxima.org member like you, and it's gonna be a shame to see your car go back to stock. I love that color on it, btw.

Good Luck!
-Nick
