i was having a discussion with another member and he wants me to post here. What is the differences between the 95 motors and 96-99 motors? he says "more gas spraying" on the 95 and "95 came with no restrictions when nissan first come out with new body style" I for one have never heard of this and dont belive it one bit, but if someone can provide evidence on this, i will belive it. i know 96 they used Map sensor while the 95 didnt.I belive JWT does programming for the 95 and 96 Maximas but what is different about the 97 ECU's? 95 and 96 might have different cams and stuff cause of less emmission restrictions but other then that i dont see whats the difference....somebody prove me wrong>?
Please Dont start on the OBDII thing cause i have a 95 and my Max is OBDII.

Blah, OBDII is not anymore restrictive than OBDI. Nearly every single 95 Max sold was OBDII. I've heard that there are some OBDI Max's floating around, but every source I've read, including CARB and Chilton's, lists the 95 as OBDII. The cat is the same on the 95, same goes for O2 sensor placement and number of 02 sensors, same injectors, same cams, and all have MAF sensors. The only difference is some different ECU programming. Whoever says more fuel makes power shouldn't be allowed to tune engines. Any tuner knows you want to lean the mixture, not richen it. I think the only real reason the 97-99s are slightly slower than the 95-96 is because of a heavier wheel/tire combo.

He has terms like "more gas spraying" and he's putting a turbo for a maxima together?

hahaha, no Andrew, its not that member your thinking of> i know who your thinkin about tho! its some other person claiming to turbo his VQ.
Damn it, it was ME!! Just playing, but anytime someone uses words like that, I laugh, but maybe something that they are rambling about will make sense. Turbo, take it as a compliment that they come to you to ask questions, as stupid as they (the questions) may be.

Wow, I always thought rich mixture was better than lean, in terms of safety and power. But then again, that's why I'm not a tuner...

Hope this helps.

at one point nismo87se (i think) had done some research into the VQ and found that there were some slight cam timing differences between 95, 96, 97-98, and 99's.
I will agree that the switch to 16's may have caused some increased mass that the engine could not compensate for, but is it a signifigant gain in mass?
