This morning at ten o'clock my dad ran in the house and started yelling. His yelling woke me up and I went to the living room. He told me my car is gone and I was like did u check in the right place (we don't have a driveway/garage just street parking). He said "yeah, there's shattered glass over where the car was parked". Damn, I'm still in disbilief. We called the police and then we called the insurance agent. The agent told us to make an insurance claim 24 hours after we called the police. Is this normal???
Since they broke my window, I'm suspecting they took it to a chop shop. What do you guys think? What do you think my chances are for getting it back??? Thanks for your input.

makes it sound like joyriders, because pros would just do it neatly or simply tow it. If it's joyriders you'll probably get it back, but in such a case you'd really rather not have it. If it were me, I may want my car back if I were the original owner. But if I got it used, I'd prefer the insurance money. Good luck.

My father was carjacked at gunpoint for his SL 500. The police were very good about getting it back, but it was totalled. Good luck, I really hope you find it.

I hope they find who did it, and that the insurance gets you enough to buy another one.

Sorry about your car, 97BlackMaxSE.

LoJack doesn't really work. My friend had it in his Integra. They never found his car.

Let's say you go to bed at 10. They steal your car at 2 in the morning. Then you wake up at 9 to go to work... no car... 7 hours have passed already! How far can you go in 7 hours and how much can you pull out of a car in 7 hours if you're good.

And like riggy said... if they want it, they'll take it, no matter what you have in there.

I feel your pain.
At least you had insurance That's something I didn't have when I crashed my Max.
Chances of you getting the car back is slim, though one never know. You can only expect the worst at this point. You need that police report. Usually there's a turnaround time (2-3 days here in NJ) for when the police report becomes available to you. You should give the insurance company heads-up as to what happened so they have it on record. But with most insurance company policy, they cannot process your claim until you give them the police report.

Good luck.

Again, Thanks for all your replies. Still haven't heard from the police yet.

Riggy- I live in the ghetto of Philly.

Luckily I didn't have any mods or rims yet. But I did have clear bumper lenses but they don't cost much anyway.

Kickyoazzz- Nope, no autolock.

Re: stolen car

very sorry for your loss. my dad had his SUV stolen from his driveway! they never recovered his SUV, but he ended up getting a new model SUV with the insurance money so he's happier now.

i a guy i work with's roomate has some kind of alarm that has 2 sirens; so if thieves clip the wire for the stock siren the extra siren contiues to sound.

to sp6040: how they get by your club? did they cut your club off from the steering wheel???

damnnnn

That sucks man, I hope they get it back...

In NYC, I am hearing of a lot of incidents of peoples cars getting broken into and stolen. A member here told me of a friend whos 97 SE was taken and they found it few days later stripped. One of my uncles had an 87 Max which was stolen and never returned in Queens. Another uncle had a 2k Max which was also stolen in Queens and found few days later stripped completely, rims, leather seats, stereo, dash pieces steering wheel, and other crap. It was a leased vehicle though. (he then got a Solara which he said was broken into twice). That is not it. The dude I sold my 3rd gen to said he had a 97 Max before which was stolen as well, found 2 days later stripped. He then got a BMW 528i and bought my 3rd gen for his little bro.. I still haven't had any problems, my car is never really parked over night anywhere but my driveway in Staten Island where insurance is cheaper and cars don't really get stolen. It mostly happens in Brooklyn and Queens I guess.....

I hope you get your car back, I think it will be found man, I don't see a reason to steal a relatively not-so-expensive car like a 4th gen and drive it hell knows where to resell it. I think they'll find it with some parts missing..

anyone here on the org can get THE CLUB off a car in about 20 seconds with a little effort.....
if they find your car chances are the back window was broken and your airbags, wing, radio, mirrors, etc will be missing....

if you peep my earlier post, the area where i live has cars stolen somewhat frequently.

i would really hate to have to break up some dude tryin to swipe my ride!

with a little T.N.T...
if you don't want you car stolen put in a kill switch in somewhere that would be a b!tch for someone to find if they didn't know where to look...
also all your CLUB does is slow someone down for about 15-20 seconds.. and trust me YOU could easily take it off if you knew how...
also alarms are only good for getting attention for about 10 seconds if that..

It'll end up better if they don't find it... you won't go through the heartbreak and the insurance will just cut you a check. It's the best solution to a bad situation.

Ive had my car about 4 months now. was stolen twice already. I both times my car was found within an hour and unharmed thanks to my lojack. maybe Im just lucky. the worst part about it is that there is nothing worth stealing in may car. I have no killer stereo system, no rims, and no real performance mods.

Damn ! Twice, that sucks?
Where do you park? Let us know so we know where to stay clear of! (kidding) That really blows big chunks.
We need a 007 explosive kit that is remote controlled, so we can blow up the car with the perp in the driver seat !

you didn't answer my question, but that's ok prob better that I not know.

kill switch that is triggered when the alarm goes off--i presume this would stop the engine from starting..

9 times outta 10 you are s.o.l. When my 97 max was stolen back in 99 the officer told me they don't look for stolen cars, they just so happen to come across them. But they did me a favor b/c they stole mine right before the 2000 max came out and I recieved a check from my ins. company the week the 2000 Max came to the dealer.

I used to live in Southeast DC and I had to park on the street. I never had a problem with my old car (97 Jetta GLS) but soon as I came home with the I30 I attracted a lot of attention.

The lojack was the best $500 I spent.

autolock!!!

hey guys,
yeah, queens is pretty bad. i think these guys steal your cars and the parts eventually end up in the chop shops down on roosevelt by shea stadium. "the club" is useless because if you watch that autolock commercial, your steering wheel is so maleable that they dont even need to saw your steering wheel (which only takes 5 seconds to do anyway) , they just pry it right off. i got myself an unbreakable autolock but your car is not off limits if they want it, they can just tow it!! and these pros dont steal your cars because its modded up or not, theyd rather have the unmodded ones so they can sell your parts!!! this is just the reality of auto theft these days.

the club as everyone has stated is a total waste of money. lowjack is good but only within the 1st 3 hours after that they stop looking for the car. lowjack is also easy to get away from, all you have to do is put the car inside any metal container (reinfored garage or storage bins) most alarms don't have diodes, so you can short them out by simply shorting out the parking lights. For the ones that do all you have to do is kill the battery...how do you kill a battery without triggering the alarm? Place a large magnet on the hood of the car where the battery is located underneath [EV's would do the trick]

Knowing this and other info tips i can give, make sure whatever alarm you get has it's OWN power source. Kill switch is definately good, you can do ignition or fuel pump.

I have come across only one thing that can stop a car from being towed...it was slammed so low even a tow truck couldn't get under it. When the alarm armed the airbags deflated. But even though the car was unstealable, all of the contents inside were. Bottom line...nothing is safe!!!
