I have an automatic, but I like to powershift when racing, does this hurt the tranny?

sometimes we have to sit back and reflect to ourselves... if we really have to ask? could it be right?

i mean aside from all the rhetorical questions the world has presented us and we create on a day to day basis.. lets stop and think for a second.. if we put thought into stuff.. do we already know the answer? or do we search for a reason to keep doing something thats wrong? i mean.. if i put my finger on the hot stove.. is it going to hurt? do we really want to know if its going to work? or do we want reassurance to know that if we do it, it will somehow be ok..

at times i like to reflect before i do stuff.. wonder why.. why does the earth turn.. why does the sun rise in the east and set in the west.. why does the koolaid taste bad without sugar.. why is it when an air plane does 500 mph hour.. it feels no faster than doing 30 mph.. somethings in life are strange yet we continue to go on and on.. knowing its the norm.. but what do we really know.. what in life is guranteed to us.. are we garunteed to wake up in the morning... are we garunteed to have a job everyday we go to work.. will the earth every end.. how long do we have..

i know it seems strange but sometimes it just isn't right.. you say its not fair.. but hey.. life isn't fair.. its not your fault.. its not my fault.. its not our parents fault.. its a part of life.. and life has manifested itself to brew in that aspect.. i mean.. what is the meaning of life.. do you know? do i know? do our parents know? where are we going.. does anyone even know? who knows.. no one does.. but day by day we decide to carry on living our lifes with no purpose..

so i think its ok.. its ok to think.. its ok to wonder.. its life.. life has its curiousities.. but in a real world.. we are just curious creatures and we have a thirst for knowledge and that knowledge makes us smarter day by day and makes us stronger.. that we continue in this make believe world with your new found knowledge..

go forth my son.. go forth with your new knowledge

Yes, do power shift. It's healthy. A power shift a day keeps the AAmco guys away!

Clutch-Type Limited Slip Differential

Figure 8.
The clutch-type LSD (Figure 8 below) is probably the most common version of the limited slip differential. This type of LSD has all of the same components as an open differential, but it adds a spring pack and a set of clutches. Some of these have a cone clutch that is just like the synchronizers in a manual transmission.

The spring pack pushes the side gears against the clutches, which are attached to the cage. Both side gears spin with the cage when both wheels are moving at the same speed, and the clutches aren't really needed -- the only time the clutches step in is when something happens to make one wheel spin faster than the other, as in a turn. The clutches fight this behavior, wanting both wheels to go the same speed. If one wheel wants to spin faster than the other, it must first overpower the clutch. The stiffness of the springs combined with the friction of the clutch determine how much torque it takes to overpower it.

Getting back to the situation in which one drive wheel is on the ice and the other one has good traction...with this limited slip differential, even though the wheel on the ice is not able to transmit much torque to the ground, the other wheel will still get the torque it needs to move. The torque supplied to the wheel not on the ice is equal to the amount of torque it takes to overpower the clutches. The result is that you can move forward, although still not with the full power of your car.

what do you mean by powershift?
u mean start the auto tranny in 1, then push it to 2 when you redline, then push it to drive (O/D off) when you redline again?

if so, yeah don't do it that much
that's what i do when I want to school civic drivers

Er, well not really, but if you're gonna school someone, school them right

I mean what's the biggest HP you've seen on a civic? 205? That would be crazy to say the least...and I could probably still take 'em.

haha, I laugh at honda.

You can't powershift an automatic. Powershifting is keeping your foot on the gas while engaging the clutch and shifting gears - as opposed to lift throttle shifting.

I think you are asking whether you can manually shift gears in your automatic with your foot on the gas. The answer is . . . of course, that's the whole point of an automatic. If you "floor" the automatic, it does the same thing - shifts under full throttle. The only difference manual shifting makes is a few hundred rpm higher shift (which in the 5th gen equals more power).
