I think UPS charges like $30 each box for a 45 lb. box.....

I think $100 is reasonable.....

Companies who use UPS/FedEx as means of delivering their merchandise usually have a discounted freight rate for the type of volume they do. Their bottomline shipping cost is always going to be less. Sometimes we'll see that discount passed onto customers, other times they'll mark up their shipping charge for add'l profit.

Simply go to www.ups.com to get an estimated rate quote. Tag along +/-$25 for shipping/packaging supply expenses since it's not likely that UPS will have free shipping boxes for Wheels.

It's going to be about $120 or so for freight charges alone from UPS for all 4 wheels. Then you usually have to buy boxes, so I would say that around $135-$150 would be a decent rate to pay. I paid $6.00 per box for 2 boxes big enough to fit 2 wheels each. I shipped out some wheels a while ago. You have to put them in 2 boxes since the maximum weight is 150lbs per package. Maxgurl is right most big shops ship them for less because they get a discount from the shipping companies for weight. I paid only $75 to have tirerack ship my old 17"s, and $100 from Wheel Warehouse for my 19"s. But for an individual to ship wheels, it's more expensive. $250 is pretty high though. However, I had a company quote $240 shipping for my girlfriend's wheels when she was shopping around. That was an actual wheel shop too. Mailboxes Etc. does charge above regular shipping rates for their profit, tell him to go to his local UPS center or Office Depot which also has UPS shipping centers inside.

You want to properly wrap the tires and rims. don't ship them like this.

Do a Google search on the name of the company. Legitimate, established companies will return many results that reference the actual company. Phony sites won't.

I've personally been giving quotes from the UPS shipping calculator. 2'x2'x1' and 45lbs each (2' being an under estimate since the diameter with tires is 28" or so). Pop in so zip codes and see what you come up with. The most expensive quote I gave from the site was around $250, and that was from Delaware to California.

EDIT: While on the topic, if anyone knows a better and cheaper way to ship let me know. UPS is raping $$$ to ship these. And FedEx isn't any better.

Shrink wrap them .. Holy Time Warp .. 2001 Original post date.

I paid 150 for my last set. About 40#'s per wheel WITH tires.

Shrink wrap 2 of them together, sue cardboard as to not damage the finish. Use the How To on TireRack.
