For the Maxima drag racers out there, here is what "conditions" do to your car....

There is a great article in Motor Trend this month written by Van Tune on page 12. The article goes into great detail about how conditions (baro pressure, humidity, elevation, temp) can influence you car's performance.
For 1000', you loose 3.6% of power on a NA motor
For every 10 degrees, you loose 1.5%
For plus or minus 1-inch change in pressure you gain/loose 3.6% power.
Motor Trend corrects ALL thier times to standard elevation, 60 degrees, 0% humidity, and 29.92 pressure.
So according to Motor Trend, my car runs 14.41@96mph I could only dream.

I've always thought it was wierd that the cars they test in the mags ALWAYS ran much better times that the ones in real life. Now I know why I can beat cars that the mag times say are just as fast or sometimes faster than my car.

while i don't believe too much in corrected times this goes give me something to shoot for. even though i had no traction last night with the times i ran i would be into the 13's on a cooler day. and the baro was at like 28 and falling. a storm was moving in. drag radials and fall weather will help.

ya from my understanding there was one maybe two people that were gonna show up MAYBE. so i made my decision and went to the slickest track around. i have no problem hooking up at all. let me tell you.

BTW, nope. I'm assuming you do though and that somehow makes a difference. Whatever. No skin off my nose. I'm just really tired of watching fights break out on the boards. Not trying to make waves.

Dave B...let me ask you this. Since the best bar. pressure is around 29.xx. What would you say is the best weather to get good times? I drag in summer, fall, winter, & spring. I think the fastest times i produce are in late fall/early or late winter. What would you say?

Actually, the higher the baropressure, the more power you will make. The closer you are to the east coast, the higher the baro pressures, typically. I don't know why, but it seems to go that way. Here in the midwest, we are lucky to see baro pressures exceed 30.1, but I've seen some timeslips from of the northeast tracks showing 31-32 baro pressures which is like running at 2000-4500' BELOW SEA LEVEL. I firmly believe this is why nearly all the fastest Mustangs, F-Bodies, Maximas, Hondas, etc reside in the northeast. Running under a 32 baro pressure has almost a supercharging effect on a NA motor. Go over to newcelica.org and you'll see that two guys (the fastest NA GT-Ss) ran 14.3-14.4s@98mph in mostly stock GT-S Celicas last winter in New Jeresy. The conditions were a 32 baro pressure, 40 degree temp, sea level, and 10% humidity. It doesn't get any more ideal than that. Funny thing is, they can't figure out why they are only able to run 14.9-15.1s@93mph now.
Low humidity, low elevation, low temp, and high baro pressures will always produce the better ets......assuming you can hook up.
