I'm looking to get some drag tires, after that show friday i put on at NHD. spun forever once i flipped on the nos. i'm gonna mount them on my stock 15's. They are the SE 15 alloys. 15x6.5 i'm looking to put maybe a 225/50/15, because it will lower my final drive a little bit. I need recommendations on what are good tires in that size range and prices. thanks a bunch.
Try.....
205/50/15 to have the best final drive ratio... thats what Nismo87 always said. the Nitto 555Rs look to be the best since they are DOT approved.

i'm not too worried about them being dot approved. i'm even considering a straight slick. I'm worried about the width on the 205's those. yes these will be stickier but they will be mad skinny. i'd rather stay with the 225/50/15.

DRAG RADIALS SUCK ON FWD CARS...
If traction is that much of a problem they wont help anyway.
Did you try slipping the clutch?
Yes, you're burning life off the clutch, but if you dont put ALL the power to the ground & keep it just before the point of spinning, you can probably get a good 60' on street tires...
Using this launch technique I was able to pull consistent 2.2 sec 60' times on HEAVY 19" rims w/ street tires...
If you do go with slicks, take it easy or you will be replacing alot of broken parts real soon...

first, i am an auto, but not for long, i'm giving my baby a sex change. What do you mean by broken parts with slicks?? I'm prolly not gonna go to the track again until i have the sex change and definelty not until i get slicks. if i do get slicks what are some good ones.

i agree with Adam, slicks on high powered cars equals broken parts. Youll have a higher chance of snapping driveaxles, gears, or killing the clutch. Basically the weakest link will be eliminated. You break stuff when you launch hard or when you are heating them up before you run. I have some slicks in my garage but am holding off until i get stronger driveaxles and other stuff.
Ive drove cars with Nitto 555R and BFG's drag radials and the Nitto's gripped better. If you do decide to go with slicsk you can go with Hoosiers or Mickey Thomspson.

ya i was looking at the nitto 555r's last night but they don't have a very wide size selection. i'll have to look a little more and decide, you guys are right. i'm not gonna get real slicks. And Ethan, where have you been. i'm one crazy SOB

Nittos for Sale
I've got two 205/45/15 Nitto drag radials with about ten passes on them. They were not driven on the street only at the track.
I got 2.1 60 foot with them.
First $100.00 plus shipping takes em!!!!

I use the Toyo Proxys from my steel rims that are 202/60/15 and have no problems getting traction when i launch.
Since drag radials are bad, would teh Nittos 555r's be any good then? They wont put too much stress on the drivetrain will they?

Get the 205/50R15s. The 205 width will be more than plenty for a car that's only making 200fwhp and 220fwtq. If you were making 50+fwhp then I'd say the 225/50s would be better. The 205s will drop you're overall drive ratio and increase torque multiplication, BUT I don't know how an auto would react to this. I'd think it would shift too early. Either BFGs or Nittos are good. The BFGs hook up better, but require a longer burnout and are mosre expensive.

i'm not saying drag radials are "bad", they just dont hook much better than your average performance radial...
if you do get some drag radials be sure to burn the HELL out of them in the burnout box...otherwise they will act just like your typical radial...
just dont expect a drag radial to considerably lower your 60' or stop your car from spinning (if its that bad)...
if you go with a full slick, I reccomend M&H slicks for FWD applications over Mickey Thompson or Hoosier...
