I got a scare today, a buddy said Camry SE is back for 2002 and look at its styling. D***, there is no question that the Camry looks good for 2002. Until I saw that it didn't even come close to Nissan in the HP dept. could I breathe easy.

Whoever designed the 5th gen Maxima hopefully is not on the 6th gen design team, because that was a serious faux pas. But it seems that Nissan engineers are lucid when it comes to powertrain. I think that if the same care were put into suspension and body, the Maxima could once again be recognized as a "Ten Best." Lots of the problems, like tranny switch, power brake, fuel sender, cheap and fake leather, paint, rust on undercarriage, radiator, battery, air bag, rubber parts, bumper covers, well, let's stop there, these problems are due to poor suppliers, not necessarily design. And these poor suppliers have cost Nissan not only gobs of cash in the warranty dept., but basically its reputation.

A lot is riding on the 2003 Maxima (flagship) IMHO.

Nah...

It's like an athletic kid on the track team (4th gen) racing his 40-year old dad (5th gen.) who is a nutrition freak. More strength (5th gen. more hp ), but still too old (heavy), and get's edged out by his son.

Like my analogy ?

Straight from "Consumer Reports"...

2001 Maxima Se Automagic:

0-60: 7.8 seconds (eahhh)
1/4th: 16.2 seconds @ 89MPH (eahhh)

1995 Nissan Maxima Se Automagic:

0-60: 7:4 seconds
1/4th: 15.7 seconds

So, there you have it. Take it or leave it, you can't argue with facts. 95's are just soo light we own joo. "cayn't touch this"

come on now, i ran a stock maxima se, MINE at 15.6 on 89mph. the mags just dont claim right. the 4th gen feels faster 0-60,but not the rush from 70-100 80-100 blah. 4th gen just seems to fall week the faster the car goes. maybes its my imagination!?
