Digital Camera...
camera's
I have a Kodak DC280. It has good features GREAT photo quality, pretty easy to use, and the USB downloads are relatively fast (only beat by floppy downloads but the cards hold much more pics). It has zoom, flash, 2.0 megapixel, and cost $500. If you wanna spend less ($400) the Kodak DC 240 is basically the same just less pic quality 1.3 megapixel I think. Hope this helps, I know there are a lot of options out there.

pure digital photography
Anyone gone purely digital, from camera to printer? I'd like to do this (eventually) and have something good enough to print 8x10's at home without ever having to worry about finishing a roll or taking it to get developed.
Yeah, go for the Kodak DC280. The new Kodak DC3800 is similar, but I don't think it is as well built as the older DC280, which will be phased out soon.
I have it, and the picture quality is excellent. In fact, I think the picture quality is better than the much more expensive Nikon 900 series or the Olympus 2000-3000 series.
So go grab one from buy.com (use one of the discounts, check dealnews.com) before it's gone.

Check out a thread I started in OT last week. I settled on an Olympus 360L, which is a CNET editors pick. Pictures are great. Battery life is excellent too. I got it for $230 from Buyitnow.com. I paid for regular ground shipping and they sent it overnight.
Digital Cameras
I read an article recently in the Toronto Star about digital cameras that stated that the cheapest disposable camera (~$10) has 10x the resolution and picture quality of the most expensive digital camera (~$1000). It said that the technology is not even close yet, and unless you're one of those people that can't wait an hour for your photos to be developed, don't bother.

Olympus
I bought an Olympus D450 for Christmas and my wife and I love it. The clarity and picture quality are amazing, it's easy to use, and so far- durable. If you post many pictures to websites, like we do, you'll use the camera endlessly and enjoy bypassing the film processing time. We saved over 160 dollars by purchasing online with automatic comparison shopping, I'd recommend you do the same.
Re: Olympus
Yeah, Eben has the camera too. It takes nice pictures. Check out http://members.nbci.com/vqlover/ I think that model has been upgraded to the D460. It's better than mine, with optical zoom. Goes for $280. The D490Z comes with QuickTime capability and goes for $380.

I have the DC280 also and I agree with all of the above except the price. I paid $425 about 2 months ago and you can easily find it for less than $400 now. Be sure to go to http://www.dealcatcher.com and look for buy.com or other online retailers online coupons. I saved $30 this way.
