Tv/DVD player installed!!

Gimme a hell yes! Greg and I installed the sucker yesterday (ok, greg installed and i sat and watched). Everything went smoothly and the screen fits great in the two din slots. Only problem is no sound, have to buy a frigge 30 dolar (!!) adapter so Aux in works. Oh well. That will be here monday i hope. Then i just have to get some molding for it.We hooked up the power inverter in an interesting way.... ran speaker cable from the battery to the invertor... pretty sketchy, so ill be fixing that soon, but the tv works, and its cool =) I was going to put the DVD player under the pass. seat but it wouldnt fit. So for now its in a carboard box in the back seat.
Anyone have ideas about that dash peices i need??
Thanks greg!

for the dash peices go with black and somehing to cover those edges. Just kidding, see if you can get your hands on some black abs plastic. Some times you can find it in sheets, line that baby up cut out for the tv area and viola trim.
Hope this helps.

Whats ABS plastic and where do i get some?

As for the cost - i got a mainer only deal , 70 bucks plus a GPS unit. I got it used from greg.
Im lovenit so far!

One thing is kinda weird about it though... when the cars off, power invertor, etc, all of, the DVD player makes a weird sound, almost like its spinning the dvd... any idea what this is. And i mean, and hour or two after ive turned all this stuff off i go back to my car and its making the sound.

Looks great!! That's what I wanted to do in my car...the built in monitor, but I was wondering...did you have Bose? Also, you think one of those 7" monitors + Single DIN HU would work in a 5th gen?

You know i have no clue. 7in seems a bit big to fit. Measure it out though. Its pretty easy to install, actually. Talk to greg (gregulator) about the install, cuz im not going to lie and say i did it =)

http://www.machinist-materials.com/D...t_sale_abs.htm try this link for some abs plastic, cheap actually. Go with the one that says good for panels.
Still looking for the carbon fiber link, I know I have it.

sweet! who makes that screen?
make sure you power inveter is hooked up to an ignition wire and not a constant, that could be why your toys are making noise.

Hmmm. So if its hooked up right to the car battery is a bad thing?

well it looks to me like all the great panel ones are the same pic price dimensions etc.. Hmm. Well 8.00 for five sheets not bad
What you could do is take the abs plastic cut out the tv area for the trim then cover that in real carbon fiber sheets, all that for under 20.00 if I can find the carbon fiber link. lol

There all the same Anyway, nice setup you got there, make sure you fix that hot-power(thats what is it), before you end up stuck somewhere with a dead battery

actually it can be a bad thing if you wired the power inverter right to the battery. I would go to a local stero shop and have them hook it up to an ignition wire. All summer long i have installed power inverters in cars for tv's,dvd,ps2,etc... and not once direct to the battery, lol I sure hope you put a fuse inline, cause if you didnt one day your gonna come out to a blown inverter and possibly anything hooked up to it.
It should cost at most $30 to have this done the right way or you can invest in a 12v test light($5) and find an ignition wire under the dash. Id look in the harness coming down from the igntion(ususally taped up inelectrical tape) cut that tape back and look for a thick yellow or orange wire(they will stand out size wise), one of these will be you ignition. Also make sure to run a 30amp fuse inline to the inverter.

goodluck,
Anthony

hmmm

Hmmmmm

some of this merchandise looks familiar...

Dude, do NOT use speaker wire for the inverter power. Use at least 10-gauge wire and FUSE IT.

Hey Nick,
Looks good, but if you are going to leave the DVD player mounted in the box on your back seat, you might want to consider investing in some duct tape.
Can't wait to see it in your car.

You have better screens than me! What was the install like for the rear LCD? How much did the screens set you back? Did you just splice the video out cable so it went to two screens?

I have some crappy DVD player thats too big to fit under the seat =(. Where did you put your power invertor?

I just used a splitter to split the signal for the two screens. My whole setup is 12volt so didnt need a inverter, was lucky on that. just bought 9300 pioneer so had to buy that $80 part to make changer and aux in work together.. sux...
