SE = Sport Edition

GXE = Base (Cheapest) Model

GLE = Luxury edition

Generally the SE + GLE have white face gauges, upgraded sound, leather trim (shifter, steering wheel) leather seats, alloy wheels, fogs, ect.

The SE's come stock with spoiler and alloy's. GXE and SE have the option of auto/manual tranny. GLE only comes in Auto.

YUP.

Unless you're a middle aged woman who enjoys softness and pampered luxury

Generally people think GXE is good to get if you plan on doing alot of major mods. But if you don't or don't for a while, the SE already looks good stock.

Be a man. Get an SE

I don't know about the 2002 models, but for 2000-01, the GLE didn't have the white faced guages.

How Do you tell what you have.

I thought I knew, but now I wonder. I never thought about it. My car has no governor, but it has chrome door handles and came with the sorriest hub caps you ever saw.

remember, all cars come with the same engine, so the GXE is the best buy (if you aren't that **** about options)

That's where my hand is all the time, on the shifter. Every once in a while, I'll act like I'm really shifting.

actually the only real maxima is the GXE, the other trims are just over priced options you change eventually..

GXE = $$$
SE = $$$ + 2000
GLE = $$$ + 3000

aftermarket

GXE = $$$$ + mods
SE = $$$ + 2000 + mods
GLE = $$$ + 3000 + mods

can you tell the difference between a modded SE and a GXE? nope...

For 4th gens
a) Brand new popout drawer is $50 delivered.
b) Fuzzy pillars off a 95 to 96 GLE or 96 to 99 I30s from a boneyard for around $100 delivered.
c) All the benefits of the GLE, none of its fatness.

And, most important:

These are standard on the REAL Maximas: ALL 89 to 94 models.

Have a nice day medic!

Actually, the only real maxima is a GXE 5-speed.

The other trims are marketing gimmicks to get ignorant people to purchase the same vehicle for several thousand dollars more with maybe a few hundred bucks in additional part cost.

What makes a Maxima a Maxima, what makes a Maxima a Minima?

I find it interesting that some of you think the GLE is just a marketing gimmick to raise the price of a Maxima. Yet I've read dozens of posts asking:

How can I install auto climate control?
Where can I buy leather seats?
How do I install fog lights on my GXE?
Where can I get chrome door handles?
How can I add homelink?

And so on. Marketing gimmick indeed.

Uh, yeah. None of those items add to the actual car itself. You still have a VQ in there, it's the same length, width, height......

The only thing functional in that list is fog lights: a $200 DIY job for the factory kit.

All GLE's do come with fog lights. And anyone who replaces them is just in a mod frenzie.

yup you are right..
But climate control does work properly. I've never heard of anyone having a problem.

And I've never seen a post about poor leather seats. Nissan kills only the best of cows for us.

Fog lights are standard equipment on ALL GLE's. And other than installing different bulbs, anyone who would change them is just in a mod frenzie.

As for chrome door handles, I was talking about the inside.

Homelink? I need it. Those of us with garage door openers don't need another plastic device clipped to the sunshade, getting in the way when you actually lower the shade.

That's it for me.
Make rivalry is one thing. But model rivalry among us is a bore.

The "manual" one works fine as well.

And you have been here how long?

You're free to look this up, but that's false. At least the 97 to 99 models (i.e. price cutting). And I'm pretty sure the 95 and 96 GLEs were fogless as well.

And other than installing different bulbs, anyone who would change them is just in a mod frenzie.

There are some Hella aftermarket fogs with a beam output that would make you cry. Who's to say that's not what they are being replaced with?

As for chrome door handles, I was talking about the inside.

4 Chrome handles are $60 from any Infiniti dealer, although I never knew they were standard on GLE models at all. Details/write-up are in dot org. My GXE has them, yet I paid a whopping $18k for my Max brand new.

Homelink? I need it. Those of us with garage door openers don't need another plastic device clipped to the sunshade, getting in the way when you actually lower the shade.

The first good point of this post, although I prefer a programmable remote that you keep personally to keep thieves from coming to the house....
