I believe the Celica with 6 speed, 180 hp, and less weight is faster, and handles better cuz it is a sports car. I had a 89 Celica which was very reliable. The new ones look nice, but friends don't like sqeezing into back seats.

I have Run the 200Hp Taurus He had More HP and weight is about the same..!

I think Celica GTS 6speed vs Maxima 5spd---> Celica with a good driver would win, with average driver they would tie....just my guess though, have yet to see one race in the 1/4th.

they look nice... but performance wise... not that fast... I run one.. which is auto(believe it or not.... most of the celica I saw are auto... more of a chic car(not trying to offend anyone)), anyway... I ran with one and beat it... don't remember how many car length though..

exactly of course the base autos are slow, but the 6speed is being ranked up there with the Integ GSRs, and according to SCC on the dyno and in the 1/4th surpasses it. so I'd say without mods, its a mid/low 15's car with an average driver, flat 15's with a good one....

I ran against one at the track about 6 months back, I ran a 14.8 to his 15.4, he was a 6 speed...

My friend has a celica. A new 2001, we were both stock and I beat him. We got our cars on the same day so we were messing around abit. I dont know if the GTS would be alot better off which I imagine it would but he had the regular version with a 5 speed.

P.s. The GTS version with an Auto is just awful. You might be able to take one with an Auto.

And I was not impressed at all. The RSX type S was A WHOLE lot nicer than the Celica GTS. I put it to the test hitting red line on 1-3. Having 6 gears was cool and all, but it really seamed slow. I think a new stock maxima would take one, I'm pretty sure my 2k1 would and it's an automagic. Lets just go to a dealership and find out!

I've messed with a GTS on the highway.
We were never below 60MPH, so I can't say off the line, but at higher speeds my car was faster by a few car lengths. But I'm not sure about a stock maxima.
I have a CAI, Y-pipe, and RT Cat so that helped me out alot.

Celica.Org has a vid of a 1/4 run of a GTS running a high 9 ... don't know what the mods were, but even if you can beat em you should respect em ... GT ... LFMAO!!!

I test drove it when it came out... very impress with the brake system... and love the six speed... not a big fan of the back seat though... the sales that drove with me and my friend had to squeeze in the back.... he is 6'5 hahahhaha!!!!

There are two guys at newcelica.org that have run 14.3-14.4@98mph with thier GT-S'. Their mods were intake and exhaust. Granted the conditions were about as ideal as you could get (super high baro, 30s-40s, sticky track), but it's been done. According to BryanH (well known Max guy) he ran a 14.7 in his GT-S with an intake. I saw him run 14.0s@103 with a 50 shot, street tires, spinning thru 1st and 2nd, and running done a C4 Vette. I believe his best was a 13.3@107mph with drag radials. HOWEVER, most guys are lucky to run 14s with intake and exhaust. Most guys are in the low to mid 15s. Every NA GT-S I've seen run at my track are in the mid to high 15s at around 90-91mph.

These cars are plenty competition for a Maxima from a roll. From a stop, a 5 speed Max should be able to out launch a GT-S if the guy is just a decent driver. The GT-S has absolutely no lowend and requires a hefty 5000+ rpm launch to get a decent holeshot. Plus, staying on the "big cam" on the 1-2 shift requires the GT-S owner to take his motor 300rpms into the redline and shift his car like a madman. If he doesn't land on the big cam on the 1-2 shift, he will be over .2 slower in the 1/4 mile.

ARRGGG!! I wasn't gonna admit to this but i got beat by one the other night, i was mad.

Pulled up next to him, and asked what he had engine, he said stock, but he had an exhaust, a carbon fiber wing, rims and the stock body kit..
Anyways we kind of punch it at the same time from 60.. I had a whole car on him from 60-80, but at 85 I could see him creeping up and around 100 he had almost a car length on me, we had to slow down because of up coming cars..
I was mad, those 6spds are quick, I can't wait for my turbo.. then I will fun.

i smoked a gts today on the highway with my brothers v6 camry ( my max was in the shop) i had a full house too.
so, without a doubt i know my max would have killed the celica with the greatest of ease

I can see any 5speed max on this board running a GTS.. but the autos around here are another story.. i didnt use the OD either.. but I was hauling 2 other people, my 150lb sub box, intake/ypipe/exhaust.. i guess my car is slow.

I was cruising on the highway when I see a GTS and a V6 Camry going at it so decided to get in on the fun also. It seems like the camry was holding its own when the flew by me. I caught up to them the traffic was lite but we still had to be careful. The hole opened up the Gts went first the camry then me, I pass the Camry And I see That I am closing in on the GTS. We take it from 30 to around 100mph And I was at the GTS door getting ready to pass him BUT we ran back into traffic so we had to shut it down. I was pretty ****ed and I know he was happy but I know that if we started at the same time I would have taking him. Well I guess he can call that a victory if he wants to but he knows I was inching pass him. Visual mods that I could see was Exhaust and I heard his intake.

I've raced a few GT-S's, one guy several times on the way home from work (who I know for a fact has a 6-speed). It has never been close, and that was on 15" H rates tires and only a CAI. The brakes on the GT-S seemed to be pretty good, but nothing to really write home about. But I was really suprised on how slow they were, off the line and rolling. For a 5spd Max, should be no problem, though there are freak cars out there that are faster than the rest...

I know now for sure that the non-GTS autos are trash.....gave one the business on my way home from school this morning! Geez...it must suck to have no torque and an automatic. I guess he thought the huge TRD sticker = Mad HorsesPOWAHZ!!! not really!! MUHAHAHAHA!!!!
