My car has a soul!
yep, drive till they die...
thats the moto in my family. we still have that cheesy 1992 mazda 929, car has 115k miles, doesn't start, 3 of the 4 windows dont work, a/c doesn't work, power antenna doesn't come out(no reception), power drivers seat doesn't work, loud as hell, sounds like its modded. car was **** quality, but its still around, until the tow trunk comes for it
my uncle is the worst at this game, if you went to his house, this is what you would find, 1989 maxima(gxe i think) 150k miles(starter bad), 1988 dodge caravan(200k+ miles, still works!), 1990 caddy deville(150k+ miles, works), 1994 chrysler town & country(225k miles, bad tranny, wont go over 40mph), 1996 chrysler town & country(100k+, works), 1997 caddy deville(60k miles, nice!), 1999 altima gxe(13k miles, droopy butt
), 2001 max se anni. and 2001 chrysler town & country. he doesn't even have room for all those cars in his lot! keeps em on the street.
basically, keep it until it doesn't work.

Probably 10 years or more unless there's a good reason to replace it sooner.
My '91 is 10 years old and still going strong, no reason to replace it. It still looks good, no rust or cracked paint. Interior is still great, no uneven wear or discoloration. This is a solid car.
My '95 is so heavily modded, I don't know if I'll ever want to replace it. It's the exact car I want and does everything I need a car to do. I can be happy with what I have! More mods are in store for it though when time/money allows.

On my other cars I generally was keeping them about two years. But on my Max if it stays with me for the long haul maybe I will do the same. It all depends on what happens mechanicly and how much repairs would start to be. Also the resale values always give me minor heartattacks when I try to sell the mfor 1/2 what I payed or less.

I usually get rid of them at about 130K, which is 4 years driving for me. Last car (first time I bought American) didn't even go that far, died at 121k. Bought the Max, hoping to go 200k+ and to keep/enjoy it for at least 6 or 7 years!
I keep mine as long as I can keep them. I am on my 5th car, and I am only 24. I have had my last 4 cars stolen and 1 of those I was carjacked at gun point. I have had some bad luck. All cars were either returned wrecked or burned to a crisp.

my 1981 nissan datsun maxima was by far the best.. 2 fuel injectors blown 157 000 km's probably in the 500 000 range OD broke. When i traded it in for my 96 max i got $100 can and they let me carve my name in the side of it with my keys
