can sometimes be fun? I'm from south cali and it was raining like a **** earlier tonight (sunday night). So I decided to take a quick spin on Ortega Highway...if you look at the list of mods on my car, I don't have much...I almost ate you-know-what a countless number of times, but it was fun to me...just wanted to share an instance of sheer boredom...

not really man

i think that all peepz that drive recklessly in the rain are a danger to everyone around them. I cannot count how many times that i have narrowly avoided being slammed into by some idiot braking late or taking corners too quickly while it is raining hard. peepz that do not drive safely during bad weather are just a menace.

i have.. all i think is stupid, and stupid is how i think, and now i wonder, what is thinking?? but i play it real safe in the rain. i used to love drifting when its' wet, saves excessive wear on tires. there was this one day where i messed up. i was in my crx comin' home from school, the light turned yellow when i was around 100ft infront of the intersection, i was in fourth, downshifted to second, steered the car hard to the left, pulled the e-brake, was pitched sideways around 60ft before the intersection, clucthed twice, gassed, gassed, looked like i was cool. then uh ohh.. i was still going sideways and i was making the "J" and i slammed into a island where the traffic light was. the curb was 10in high, my car was dropped two and a quarter inches. some how my car climbed up the curb sideways, and i was stuck on it.. no one was injured, two wheels in the air, and two on the ground, i quickly pulled off the island scraping the bajeezes out of my gas tank and all, and my allignment was toasted, control arm bent, and on top of all that i was rolling on my friend's gsr's. lucky i didn't get any tickets. but that wasn't the end to my drifting days. now with the max, i drive 5-10 under a local 50 zone if i'm alone since there is no ones tire tracks to roll on. and when i'm behind someone, i'm 6 car lengths behind them.. i dont' wanna slam into neone infront of me injuring or killing someone. and most of all, i dont' want to only have teh front end painted. i want a full paint job if i ever got one, and a custom molded kit. so please play it safe in the rain and anytime you drive. ya wana drive like a nut, do it in a high school parking lot when it's 3 in the morn, ya wanna drift, flood the lot 3 in the morn. hehehe (its' fun) but dont' put other's life at risks.

Nah. I disagree. The other night I was coming home from a friends house at about 1:30AM in a downpour, and I took my exit in the rain a little fast so I could oversteer and ride around the clover-leaf rally-style! It was so much fun I went around about 10 times, making a total of 40 clover-leaf turns. During the entire time, I never saw another car on any of the roads except the interstate that I was near, and even then it was just an occasional semi-truck. There is no traffic in OKC after 1AM on a weekday night. I don't, however, think that triple-digit speeds and weaving in and out of traffic in bad weather is smart.

well yeah

i didn't mean to come off as putting down driving "enthusiastically" I am only meaning to say that it is both foolish and reckless to drive like a nut when roads are wet or icy. I can understand if there are no cars around and you just wanna have some fun. Hell I do it sometimes! But not when there are other cars on the road, and one simple lapse of judgement could cause you or other drivers injury or death. It just can't be justified. I speak from too much experience because I have lost lots of friends due to foolhardy driving, so I am not just preaching. It is incredibly hard to bury a friend(s) due to reckless driving. Certainly noone should ever fool around if there are passengers. It is one thing to jeapordize your own safety, but to play with someone elses life is wrong. Driving with caution in bad conditions will prevent these tragedies.

Thats why I said it was "stupid"...

I realize it's not the smartest or safest thing to do...but there was no traffic and the only life I was putting in danger was my own. Kinda just wanted to see how different this forum is with Audiworld (used to own an S4).

This thread was supposed to be about stupid stuff we've done. But then again, maybe that's the dumbest thing you've done, and you're just really smart(plug ofr you). I can start a smart thread if you want.

Well this is my story. A freind of mine was riding with this guy in a turbo civic. They were cruising about 80mph in a 45mph zone.(because its cool?) A girl who thought they were going the speed limit pulled out to make a left turn. Well needless to say they hit. Luckily for the girl, they hit the rear door, putting her in critical condition instead of killing her. The driver right leg was cut in too, and suffered a broken arm. My freind sufferd a broken collar bone, and three broken ribs. Given the situation they were all very lucky. Being stupid doesnot pay. MY 2 cents

Bad idea......

I'd had my Max for less than a year when some teenager blows around me on I-37 in San Antonio in a steady downpour. She (in her nifty purple Cavlier!) spins out careening off BOTH of the ramp walls and causes a large traffic accident of which I am a part of.

4K of cosmetic damage to my car (hood, light assembly, scrathced and dented boday panels). Luckily no structural damage to my Max, she was lucky to walk away with the cuts and scrapes from her airbag. The front and rear body panels were torn off her car, I still have a fender as a souvenior. You could see her engine and most of the rear suspension (what was left of it). Basically no need for the car crusher for her Chevy. If I hadn't of been paying attention, or known how to brake without ABS I probably would have T-boned her, instead the Le Baron behind me sideswiped me.

Don't get me wrong, playing in the rain can be fun, but find a large parking lot or something. The upside of above was that she WAS found at fault, and I got new paint on most of my car.

Norcal people are particularly afraid of rain for no apparent reason. They drive like 15 below when it is considered as drizzle in the midwest. I lived in the midwest for quite a few years and I have never seen people driving as slow as those here in Norcal in rain.

The best way to get rid of some stupid norcal people (especially those who think stupidity is a handicap and park their big SUVs in handicapped spots) is to give them some freezing rain during the morning commute hours.

God! I miss the time when I did 360s in empty snow-covered parking lots.

Dude...Be careful...

Believe it or not, I work at the Nichols Laboratory on the Ortega. It's at that one stoplight in the middle of the Ortega that goes up to that building in the hills. Sometime I come from the Orange County side (from my parents home) or sometimes from the Riverside side (from my girlfriends apartment) of the Ortega. Well anyways, I own both a 1993 SE (bone stock 5spd) and a 2000 SE (modded 5spd, see signature), and man, its scary driving at 4am in the morning through that mountain in the rain with either car. Even though my 2000 SE is great in the dry, but when its wet on the Oretga, I sometimes fishtail from the loose gravel, mud, and water. If I fishtail, could you image those other cars on the Ortega that are not as sporty and sure-footed as our Maximas. Since the time I worked there, which is exactly 1 year, I witnesses about 5 major accidents on the Oretga due to drivers taking the switchblade turns way too fast in the car they have. Dude, once a little Honda Civic thought he his car was a Ferrari and bit the corner too hard and spun out and bashed into the mountain wall. That was not a pretty sight, and not to mention there was several people behind that idiot trying to avoid hitting the Honda after the accident, including me. That was some scary sh*t when cars are missing each other by inches on a 1 lane highway. Every since then, no matter how good my Maxima SE's are, I would not jeopardize my life and car to prove that I could nogotiate through the Ortega during adverse weather. Sorry for this long post, but I would not like to witness another accident on the Ortega any time soon.

Hey, as long as it's safe and no one else can get hurt, stupid is the only way you learn. When it snow's, I don't care how much, I'm out in the parking lots, corporate roads and what not swinging my car left, right, 360's, and actually timing my laps like a rally car driver.

I don't know, doing stupid things and 'surviving' unscathed is alomost a high for me. Makes me do it over and over again...

I've always thought there was a difference between stupid and just being crazy. I've done some crazy things but never stupid. I once was trying to see how fast I could take this exit ramp off the highway, its a long one that bridges over the highway, kinda nascarish. I've gone up to 80mph, but I think 85 is possible. One thing that ****ed me off, I was in our "downtown" area where people cruise at, well its 1 am and theres no one out but me and some friends. They are in a parking lot. I go down the road grab the ebrake and spin it 180 degrees and lay into the throttle and do a hella big burnout. I pull back in the parking and and a cop pulls in and starts biching at me for doing stupid stunts like that. I'm like, how is that stupid? No ones around, didnt hurt anything, just my tires. Besides, he didnt see it, said someone else did. I didn't get a ticket or anything. Some Cops are just no fun.

I totally agree. I personally think every one of us that are a afraid to test the limits of cars in a safe environment(sp?) should at at least enroll in some sort of driving school. It's amazimg the amount of accidents I've seen that a more "competant" driver could have avoided. Simple stuff like threashold braking, countersteer or just seeing an unexpected corner show up in the road and picking a correct line and making the turn instead of locking up and ending up in a ditch.

The problem is that very fine line between "testing the limits of the driver/car in a safe environment (eg: empty parking lot etc) and actually driving like an idiot.

Or conversely - maybe everyone ride a motorcylcle for a week or two at least . After I sold my YZF 600 - I rarely speed more than 5-10 over the limit. After riding any motorcycle - seems like enything short of an M3, Corvette and the likes is downhill.

the only stupid thing i do is ebrake slides in empty parking lots in the snow. What i do in public during snowy conditions is drive real slow and use my ebrake to aid my turning with FWD i kinda just go straight unless i swing the back end out a bit. Needless to say i was the only NON SUV driving in the snow in my town.(Because I Can )
