Re: Money - where do u guys get em?

modding a maxima is dirt cheap compared to most european cars. It all depends on your financial situation.

I'm 27 and I buy my cars for cash. I'm not saying I'm rich, but I like to buy 2 year-old cars where the first owner took the hit in depreciation. I like the fact that I can get into some pretty nice cars that I otherwise couldn't buy new. Buying a car outright means I don't have car payments. I've got the cash to do some pretty crazy stuff (S/C, built motor, whatever) with my car right now, but I prefer to put it into 401Ks, IRAs, stocks, and money market. Pure and simple, I want to retire early. I'm REALLY into cars and I love toying with them, but blowing all your money on a car, a house, a women, etc is completely pointless, IMO. If you've got money to burn then do it, but don't spread yourself thin if you don't have much money.

I'm 22 and I run AP-Signworks. The money from that is pretty good. But the main benefit for my car is that I'm tied into the industry some, so it's easier to get hookups and sponsorships. If it weren't for sponsors, I could not afford to do the stuff I'm doing to my car right now.

I bet some of you wonder how I got my username. Well, I'll tell you what I do for a living. I donate every week, although I do get paid for it. What do I donate? No, it's not blood.

I'm 31 and an IT consultant. I guess I feel the similar to Dave B, I own my 98 GXE and I would like to retire no later than 45 yrs old. My ultimate goal is to own a dealership. I haven't modded my 98 too much because its on the road all of the time, i've averaged 35k miles a year for the last 4 yrs and being a consultant, I entertain clients quite a bit, so my car must remain comfortable. I will be replacing the max within the next 12-16 months once I hit 150k. I'll probably do a whole lot more modding once I get a new car and stop traveling so much, it sucks having your factory warranty expire after a little over 1 yr.

I'm 24 with a well paying job. I'm crazy about cars, but my modding has slowed down because I am getting married in Dec 01. Them diamonds are expensive. I pay cash for everything which I win playing craps at the Goldstrike casino in Tunica. All my winnings bought everything you see in my sig.

It is all just for fun. Now I am saving to buy my mothers GS400 for my future wife. Her altima is on its last leg.

21 with wife and 3 year old son. *sniff* no money for my maxima. I did what I could when I cashed in my stock certificate and now just putting aside small dumps of my paycheck to do more. Yeah, I wonder that question too... where do people get the cash to do up there rides - Don't they have other priorities?

Man! Just paid off the student loans late last year and thought that "investing" my money was the best thing. Although I am no where near retirement, have already lost enough in the market this year that I could've bought a brand new car! The modest amt of money that I put into my max is therefore money well spent and that I definitely appreciate every time I take her out--no regrets at all.

Hopefully, there will come a day when I can feel good about the money I put into mutual funds and stocks.

I've been spoiled as *****. That's how I get most my loot until recently. I never worked a day in my life until my 2nd year of college, when the parents finally stopped payin for everything....now, I'm resorting to ebaying things that I no longer use, clear out the accumulated junk and get some dough.

22, zero kids , no wife , own my own business selling car parts but I also do subcontracting work through the business. I do the payroll, payroll taxes, and health insurance for a local trucking firm. I also picked up a new gig doing a market research and internal analysis for a nightclub to make them more profitable (myself along with three others.. I'm doing the internal analysis and they'll do the market research).

When I was in high school and my first few years of college, I worked full time for Nike and had a good paying job so money was never a problem for mods on my cars.

I still haven't gotten a dime (and never will) from my mother for my vehicular obsession.. she doesn't like all the money I've spent on my cars LOL. So I buy her stuff every now and then.. treadmill, fridgerator, stuff for her dog, stuff for her car, etc.

yeah my money situation sucks.. my parents paid for the car but they drew the line there. I guess I am lucky to not have to pay for the car, but now I have this car with a lot of potential and no means to mod it out... oh well, i'll have to wait till i get another summer job or get lucky somewhere a long the way.
