But, it doesn't come with a 5 speed either.

Well, it does keep the British woman that does the voiceovers for the commercials employed.

Get the 6-speed TL when they arrive in the coming months.

Forget Nissan.

Acura tends to disagree with your statement.

I was wrong, though:

CL 6-speed: spring '02
TL 6-speed: fall '02 DEPENDENT UPON SALES of CL 6-speeds

And yes, I did research.

No, just being a realist.

That, and I drove my dad's 99 TL over the weekend. 4th gen Maximas flat out suck compared to that vehicle.

VTEC is nice.

Drive a BMW, it will put the TL to shame. But you are still a hater.

You are correct. But from a list price standpoint, people would be stupid to buy a Minima.

2k2 GLE w/Navi 31,500
TL-S w/Navi 33,300

Not a big difference to me......

Once you hit Bimmer territory, you're in a significantly higher pricepoint......

Those are MSRPs kids..

Note there will be a heck of a lot more room for negotiation with the Altima and Maxima versus the TL-S and BMWs(well the good ones anyway)..

Back in '99 I talked a '99 SE-Limited 5 Speed down to under 20K from a sticker of about $25K.. Yeah the 2000s were 6 months away but 5 speed Maxes don't sell very well, at least down here in Houston..

I always get weird looks when at a stop light cause my brake lights aren't on and I am rolling backwards - "what is dat 4-door sedan doing rolling backwerds??"

I'm not disputing the "talk-down" price, but someone at Nissan needs to look at how Honda does things. Nissan overprices their vehicles and then knocks 20% or more off the sticker while Honda says "here it is. You can buy it, or one of the other 20 people behind you can. We don't really care".

With these tactics, Nissan is pricing their cars against others with much better build quality than Nissan's latest offerings the past few years. If they went to "bare-bones" pricing, they would probably be seen as a value leader and sell more on value rather than BS'ing all of us that their quality is still the same. I dislike their "smoke and mirror" approach.

I seem to recall that in late '99 all new Maximas were heavily discounted to make room for the 5th gen. It wasn't uncommon to be able to have $6k taken off the sticker price without any haggling. I remember seeing a fully-loaded GLE sticker at over 30k and I could have had it for under $24k. Too bad I wasn't shopping for a car then since that was a hell of a deal. I still might get a '99 for myself in a few years.

You could always get the I35 and then do the auto to 5spd conversion, we all love talking about on here.

Very pretty.

But can they say it's the most powerful car in its class? 255hp I35 vs. 260hp TL-S?

I just saw the new I35 at my dealer and it pretty much had everything except for navi and also the fact that it wasnt a Touring. It was stickered at a bit over $31k so the price is now very close to the fully loaded Maxima range. Basically, if you want an auto, go for the I35. A few nicer touches like rich woodtrim, wooden **** and richer leather.

I have a 99 TL and my brother has a 2000 maxima SE.Both are great cars and both have a great amount of power. So it all comes down to personal choice. The i35 to my opinion is just a maxima with mascara(for a couple more $$$$).If u guys would ask me to pick between a max and a tl type S.I would personally choose the tl type s.Others would probably take the maxima. But i was wondering if we would stop beside each others.Which one would have a greater sense of pride (if u know what i mean) which one of us would say in his head i have the better car.I'm pretty shure that would be me.

I would be pretty proud to own a car that compares to a car that falls into the luxury division of a competing company. i guess you are proud to compare your car with a car that compares even though it is not in a competing class.

very interesting point. I also like the fact that there are so many TLS owners who are members of MAXIMA.ORG. Funny isnt it. Anyway, I think it should be I35 hands down. More goodies, a better look (but thats opinion obviously), and then there is the fact you can tell everyone you own an infiniti which sounds better than nissan...
