purging nitrous line
purging nitrous line
Please bear with me, I'm a complete novice when it comes to some things.
I've read in various places that purging a nitrous line results in an impressive display. An impressive display of what?
And while I have your attention, in "The Fast and the Furious", why were flames shooting out of their tail pipes prior to the race in the street race scene? Maybe this is a related question.
Thanks!
Steve

Re: purging nitrous line
When you purge your NOS lines, you just get a big cloud of NOS coming out, but it looks kinda cool. Flames coming out the tailpipe were just special effects.

With the top fuel dragsters the flames are the result of unburnt fuel igniting on the way out of the exhaust pipe. I may be way out of my league, but I don't think a car with a catalytic convertor can do that.

Purging the NOS is mainly to clean the lines for a "true" & better NOS hit. It is also for show... just purging & attention wise.
As far as teh falmes, in F&F, it was special effects.
This can be answered a few ways. Some cars have spark plugs back there to create the flame look. Second, when cars really do have flames coming out (not having plugs) its a big back fire. This usually only happens on high hp producing engines.

Okay, so the cloud comes out from under your hood? Or do you run the purge line back to the rear of the car? Does it make a sound when you do it?

ya when you purge you get a big cloud of white smoke and a nice noise. it's more for show. if synki had a 100shot and purged as much as he did he would have even more traction problems than me. and you have to get rid of you cat to even have a chance of the flames thing. unless you want to spray gas through a line out your tailpipe after the cat.

Thats how aircraft with afterburners work. They spray additional fuel right before the exaust and it ignites. A small fuel line is probaly the way to go.

Do you close the bottle and purge? Is purging necessary to clear out the line?

You can shut off the bottle and purge, or just get the RPM's up while your driving, gun it, sqeeze for a sec (that's all thats coming out is a tiny bit anyway) and then your line is clear.
