Please advise, I understand that a certain type of bulb has to be used, can anyone inform me of this and if they are legal in our great Commonwealth of Virginia.
Thanks

They are illegal if you don't have orange bulbs. At least that's the law in Oklahoma. How about this, are factory Mazda Millenia turn signals illegal? They have factory clear turn signals on the front. Or what about new civic Si's? They have factory clear turn signals in the rear and the front. What they do have, though, are amber reflectors on the front that are only visable from the side. I am pretty sure if you put amber bulbs in, you can get away with it pretty easily.

i lived in va for the better part of my life and there is one thing i know...EVERYTHING IS ILLEGAL!!! If a cop has nothing to do, he will ticket you. I got this strait from a cop in va " they aren't illegal, but they are unapproved by vdot for use on the road" which means they can ticket you if they want even if you have orange bulbs. To be honest though, the cops don't even know the rules, so get the ornage bulbs and if you get pulled, try to convince them. If they still give you a tic, just put your old ones back on and go to court, you'll get off.

I'm most have clear corners but I think they are using the orange bulbs.. The Clear bulbs aren't bright enough in the day time anyway..
It's illegal if it doesn't have DOT approved number on it. Some clear corner are made with the same mold that made the OEM lens. So you might have a DOT number on it, mine does. You can then point it out to the cop and he will have nothing to say.

On a more serious note: there's nothing wrong with bumping old threads if the subject matter is still relevant. If more people consulted older threads, there would be alot less repeat questions on here. If an old thread is "dug up" for valid reasons, it shows that people are using the search feature correctly. This question was asked in at least 3 PMs to me in the last 2 weeks, so I bumped the answer. kthanxbye.
by the way, it is "hypocricy"

I've seen the same situation you described happen multiple times within the last year in the 5th gen forums and if it's bumped by anyone that's not in the little 'circle of friends' they get flamed. don't try to tell me it's different. Originally Posted by irish44j

1. I have no control over anything in the 5th gen forum (I'm not a moderator there), so why are you complaining to me?Originally Posted by LA02MAX

ironically, I spelled it with the "s" and then changed it for some reason because it didn't look right

You as well as a few others are the prime culprits. That's my point.Originally Posted by irish44j

Ooo ooo ooo ooo! can i answer??!
having dealt with this silliness personally, clear corners are legal UNTIL you have to get your car inspected; your car (should) not pass unless you replace the stock orange reflectors & turn signals back in. this is what i've been told numerous times by my dealer (they do state inspections for free). moreover, the saleswoman told me basically remove the clear corners, let them pass it, and then once i pull off of their lot, i can put the clear corners back. didn't matter that the bulbs themselves lit up the right color (amber in the signals & white on the sides)...i was told the markers themselves MUST reflect amber as well, hence the ugly stock signal housings went back in. tiny 5-minute inconvenience to pass inspection, i'd say.
as far as blue bulbs, i've been written up for them just once, and that was AFTER the trooper had already flagged me for an expired county sticker (goes next to the inspection sticker on the windshield). troopers were staking out toll booths along a toll road in suburban northern VA on the first of the month, and they got me coming thru the gate. even after i turned on the lights to show him the light itself was still WHITE, he said the bulbs themselves (blue) were a
. so based on that experience, you can theorize that unless a cop/trooper really wants to be a hard-a$$ about the letter of the law, you're ok with the blue bulbs.
now for you dumb-dumbs who have other questionable sh*t on your cars (loud muffler, stupid-dark tint, HIDs, etc.), once you've drawn the attention of local law enfocement, best believe they'll find those pesky blue bulbs and many other "nit-picky" things wrong with your car.
