how do I verify if somebody has a real SMX??

I know somebody in Toronto who got a used maxima that came with:

- stillen intake
- lowered (but not sure with what)
- 17" Momo arrows
- 100% perfectly mounted body kit (almost has to be factory)
- no signs of SE/GLE/GXE badging
- stillen FSTB
- No supercharger

how can I verify if this is a real SMX, the guy got it used from an oler guy who used it as a company car. There were no other mods of any kind when he got it.

here is the only picture I have that shows the SMX on the back. He also has a stillen muffler. It just appeared to make sense that this was, but I don't know for sure... there was nothing on the dash.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't the VIN tell you? Usually the VIN will ID the car. Get the VIN and contact Stillen.

I wouldn't trust any answer from stillen... unless you're buying something they could care less about giving you information. I don't know if the VIN would help because the real SMX ones may just be labeled as SEs to same money and time.

I think I've seen steling mist SMX maxima here (30mins from Toronto) That guy kinda matched what theblue discribed, perfectly mounted body kit, but it had no SMX sticker in the back and it got MAXIMA just like ours. If I remembered correct, the mono rims looked larger then Grants. Stillen exhaust too, he was driving it slow couldn't hear if there was an intake or not. I was in a hurry that day because I was late for lunch break so I didn't really check that car out.

The only SMX maximas that I've ever seen or heard of were S/Ced, that's the entire reason that Stillen made the "SMX", to advertise their supercharger. I also know that a few car mags had tests of the S/Ced SMX max in 96. It was either a 95 or 96 model.

nope, I know not all SMX's were Supercharged

I have no idea what years were, and what ones weren't though. I am sure there is an article a websearch can turn up some precise information on these SMX's... Anyone know how many were made? Surprised I have only seen 1 on this board. Maybe I havent been around long enough though and some come and went.

I believe it was the November 96 issue of MT you are reffering too. I have it and the max is a SMX but has no SC. Also it is a 97 5spd maxima. The mods listed are Intake, cat-back & ECU, it also has a body kit, arrows, 245/45/17 Yokohama's, FSTB, eibach & tokico's. Well anyways it did 0-60= 6.7. MT also testes a stock 97 max and it did 0-60= 7.1 .

Sprint man, your slipping . In 97 a SC on SMX was a option nad not standard.

The SMX had unique progressive lowering springs... if it doesn't have those it's probably not real. The later ones may have gone to Eibachs (not sure) but if it's stock ride height you can be sure it's fake.

The SMX is a model nissan and stillen got together on. Kind of like a TRD camry or a roush mustang.

The SMX was a moddified maxima that could be ordered threw particapating nissan dealerships, it offered the same waranty as any other maxima.

This may help because he had lowering springs but we didn't know what kind they were because I had not seen them before.
