kill switch?

I forgot who was it here that had a write-up of a DIY kill switch. The only part I remember was the switch was connected to the foglight switch. Thus, you had to turn the foglight switch on/off to start the car. Anyway, I think that was a great idea. Anyone here remember that? Or if you are the guy I'm talking about, please reply.

I remember someone wiring in a switch to the fuel pump but not to the fog light switch. This person hid the switch and whenever they parked in an area where they thought their car was unsafe they just flipped the switch and the car wasn't going anywhere.

that would be me
it's on a 3rd gen, but you can use the same basic principle on any car

I'm not sure about the 4th gen switch, whether it has any unused contacts or not. If not, you could just wire your fogs directly to your corner light power since at least for me, I always have them on with my lights. Then the fog switch can be used just for a kill switch
just an idea, there are many different variations
I've read about some miata guys using the cigarette lighter, you have to push it in to start the car. I like my way better because you dont really have to do it everytime - only turn the switch off when you want to activate the starter kill; otherwise, just dont touch the switch and the car acts like normal

email me if you have any questions

or you can purchase a toggle switch from Radio Shack rather than use an accessory item.

right, then just be sure to hide it somewhere safe
I just like the stock switches because most people wouldn't think to look there

also, here's the cig lighter thing I was talking about : http://www.miata.net/garage/killswitch.html

I did this:

This is straight from DBM - "The fuel pump relay is situated near the floor, behind the plastic kick panel just to the left of the drivers feet. It is a type 1M relay in a blue plastic case. You can wire a toggle switch in series with the relay coil circuit. The coil terminals on the relay are #1 and #2. Install that switch at the top edge of the kick panel. It will be in an unobtrusive location just to the left of the hood release control."

I saved that to my drive a while ago. It works great. But I hid the switch a little better. I am a valet driver and when I get in a car that doesn't start by the turn of the key, under the dash is the first place i sweep for a switch. I am sure that car thiefs do the same.

car wiring is fairly simple with some little tricks - relays, diodes, switches, etc
btw, if you're ever in atlanta and want some wiring stuff done, let me know: rewires, keyless entry, remote starter, etc
I put keyless entry in mine, remote starter/keyless in Killermoves 93SE (auto) and will be doing a stater/keyless in Jason F's 90SE (auto) this weekend
I've done keyless/alarms in a few other non-maxima cars too

Thanks for the tip guys. Actually, the guy that I'm talking about has a 4th gen Maxima. He had a write-up on the kill switch on his homepage. His directions were very detailed and easy to follow. Wish I save that page...doh! Oh well, I'm going to try out that fuel pump switch thing.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this forum. My Infiniti Q50s was stolen from me on March 30th. After dealing with insurance and in the middle of buying a house, I am ready to buy my next car. I am 99% sure I am buying 2016 Maxima tomorrow night. Anyway I'd like to put a kill switch on it and have no clue where to begin. I am not electrical savvy. Is this something the dealership can add? Or does anyone have any place to suggest that I can go to see instructions. I like Craig's idea with the fog light switch, I'd like mine as hidden as possible. Killing the fuel pump is great, and perhaps if I had that on my Infiniti I wouldn't be here asking, but you live and learn. Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

^Dealership isn't going to do this for you. Until you figure out a game plan on your ultimate starter kill, you have a few options. a)disconnect MAF b) pull fuel pump fuse

Thank you The Wizard. Spoke with them today, you were right, they will not do it, but my sales guys is referring me to someone who will. I appreciate the response. I'd do it myself if I felt I could, just need to keep searching the web.
