Honda owner but Maxima Fan!

Bonjour,

Im a newbie on this board!! Last year before I bought my car I had a few cars in my mind and the Maxima was one of those. I drove one a 1996 5spd and I liked it a lot. I didnt bought one cause I wanted a brand new car with a waranty and all... and the Maxima was WAY out of my price range!!! and the used one in my price range already had 45000-50000 miles on it. Then I looked for the Sentra SE with the sport package... but a 2000$ mark up and a 3-4 months delivery delay was truely insane!

So I went tomy honda dealer and ordered a brand new silver Honda Civic SiR!

I know those cars arent very fast... in fack at the track most people cant get a 15s out of it even with mods!!! But thats only because they dont know how to drive!!! At the beginning I was also running 15.8s... then with practice 15.5 ... then 15.36... then I did my best time stock... 15.289 with a drtop in K&N. I was happy... thats when my stock clutch started slipping. After +100 1/4 runs with 6000rpm launch... it only last for about 12 miles!!! But I also did a LOT of street racing, plus some lapping and driving schools! Anyway so I upgraded it to an Integra TypeR clutch and added an AEM COld Air intake and went back to the track! I was looking for 14s.

I ran 14.984 @ 92.509 mph!!

So basicly im happy with my civic!!! but im still a fan of the Maxima!

Have a nice day!

In Canada. Canadian SiRs are American SIs.

Both have 160hp.

Our Si coupes are your EX coupes - 127hp.

I think the SiR is overpriced for what it is. Doesn't it cost $25KCDN brand new???

Whoa, that's the most impressive time I've ever seen for an SI (SiR in your case) stock or as close to stock as you are. Good job.

Canadian tracks must run downhill.

I got mine for 22900$!!! I dont think its that overpriced... considering you get A/C, electric and heated mirrors, electric sunroof, electric windows, 4 disc brakes, ABS, 2 airbags, front upper strut bar, rear swaybar, etc... all this as base equipement!! no options! Plus you get the B16A2 engine, a close ratio tranny, etc... and its a LOT faster then a 127 hp SI (EX)!

yes I ran 14.984 with an AEM CAI and a ITR clutch... but I forgot to say that I removed the front and rear seats, + spare tire!

gotta love weight reduction!

Here it is!

I wanted a Maxima when I bought my Integra, but I didn't have the funds at the time. As soon as I had that paid off though, I traded it in for a Max...

Welcome to the board. I almost bought a Civic once. My 87 Prelude had just blown its engine and I was looking at a brand new 97 Civic DX. Insurance was way to high at $300/mo so I passed and ended up fixing the prelude.

You do realize theres no difference between the B16A2 and B18C5 clutch, right?

as far as I know there is a significan(sp?) difference between both!!! The ITR clutch is build to hold as much as 190-200 whp and rev passed 9000 rpm... while my stock B16A2 clutch start sliping the first time redlined 1-2-3-4 gears! ... now the tire chirp in third gear!!!! I saw a BIG difference!

theres no difference between the two...
the only difference is the flywheel...
of course you're going to feel a difference between a slipping clutch and a new clutch...whether it was an ITR or 'teg RS it wouldnt have mattered.

Welcome,

I am both a Honda and Nissan fan as well.

Finally had to give up the project Prelude and go with the 4 doors.

We have two little ones now.
