wheel alignment?

Does the Nissan dealers go a good job with alignments? I was thinking of going there to get one because I live like only 5 minutes away. But I wasnt sure if they would do a good job, and yes, its the mechanic that counts, but in general, do the dealers do a good job? Or can anyone recondmend a place that I can get an align? I live in San Leandro, but anywhere around there, San Francisco, Oakland, etc. but not as far as San Jose, I dont want to go all the way down there just for an alignment. Well, thanks.

any shop can do it..

if you have a 4th or 5th Gen you only need a 2 wheel thrust alignment.. don't let them over price you for the 4 wheel

TRY AND GET

try to get them too get the left and right side as close to each other as possible. there is a sorta broad limit, and the closer the numbers are together the alignment seems to be better.

All the shops around here charge around $50 for alignment. Does this sound about right??

Sorry to bring this up again guys but I just went to my local mechanic and asked him how much he charges for the alignment, he said $65 for all tires. I told him only the fronts, he said he doesnt do that cause if the rear are not aligned then the problem wont be solved. Called up the Nissan Dealer and they have a special going - $46 for all tires, so might as well align all 4 tires even though only the fronts needs to be done, right

Thanks..

The rear beam suspension does not allow for any adjustments. The dealer can call it 4 tires alignment all they want but all they will adjust are your fronts. But $46 is a good deal and atleast you will know they are supposed to know what they are doing. My girlfriend's dad took her Camry to some shop to have it aligned and now the steering wheel is at a 45 degrees angle when the car is going straight.

I had a 4 whel done on mine. But only because for some reason there was a sale on it and the 4 wheel alignment was 15 bucks cheaper that weekend. I wonder if they actually even did anything in the back. Either way I saved 15.

I went to Sears once for new tires and an alignment for my old Jetta. What a mistake, that b!tch was all over the road after they were done with it. I was afraid to take it back because I thought they would make it worse than it already was. Good thing I learned my "big chain shops" lesson with my VW and not my Max.

Two ten-thousandths off? Uhh...

I hear on here another big chain place to watch out for is Firestone. I guess they are careless and sloppy on alot of thier work. Just a heads up to some.

Is the front wheel alignment only jut for 95+ Maxima's. I have a 93 SE and the shop I went to said they did all 4 because the the alignment on the rear was also off. Did I just get screwed? I used to take it to the dealer and get a 4 wheel align since it was the same price as 2 wheel, but the new shop charged me me more.

Actually the rear axle can be adjusted. You would have to go to a specialty alignment shop that does alignments on light trucks. They have hydraulic "benders" that can bend solid axles such as ours to a certain degree. But if your alignment is that off, I would wonder how it got like that in the first place. Not many shops do this at all, so not all alignments are created equal.

The alignment to ask to get is the alignment that aligns the front wheels to the rear wheels. I believe this is called a 4 wheel thrust alignment, but I'll have to check.
