Type 2 wing copy possible? (Shadow, custommaxima.com please look)
I'm wondering about the possibility of getting a Type 2 wing copy made. How many people would it take to preorder to get this wing made? Can it be done at all due to copyright issues? If anyone likes this idea, post here, and we'll gauge the interest.

In all seriousness, I want to find out if Stillen could do that. I know there are lots of companies making replicas of the OEM spoiler, so why not the Type-II? This board has a lot of trouble actually producing orders when a new product comes out, but I think the demand for this is good enough to justify a new production run.

Maybe you could avoid copyright issues if you just made a smaller LED light or something? I meen, it's different! BTW I think lots of people would buy the wing.

For this to even be considered, I'd have to buy around 40-50 sets to get the manufacturer willing to make up the mold. And that's a lot of investment. It can be done. I would just need a stock wing and some pictures (because I don't think I'd be able to find a Type II wing anymore). There really aren't copyright issues with this. I don't know if you guys know, but nothing is copyrighted when it comes to body kits. If it were, Han Autotrends and Erebuni would be out of business. Look at how many copycat kits there are in the Honda market. Stillen could threaten me or whoever does do this, but in reality, not much could be done. Since this wing would only be inspired by the Type II, and there would be subtle differences, Stillen would have even less to go by.
All I can say is, I'll have a talk with the manufacturer tomorrow and we'll see if this would be feasible.

I agree, I think the demand is there. I'd like one of the guys who has experience with this sort of thing to reply to the thread, I don't know if it's legal or how many units it would take for a production run.

Haha!!! Haha!!! I have a REAL type-II!!! j/k
Besides, the REAL type-II has a crappy LED that doesn't fit right, and the wing is so poorly made that my body shop actually told me that it was the worst aftermarket part he has ever seen in his entire career, which is around 35 years...PLUS it didn't come with any mounting hardware, and I went to about ten different hardware stores to find screws that actually fit into the screw threads that were fiberglassed into the spoiler, and one of them was crooked too! BIG azz POS, but I love it!

If you build it they will come........
How about this Shadow.... you mentioned that it would take some 40-50 orders to possibly get a manufacturer to build the mold. How about we check the interest by getting these people to put forth a small deposit (maybe $50) and when the wing is made they're offered a nice group deal price and all others who come after can buy at full price. I understand that in order to get things moving in this business it takes a huge demand and a little $$$ to get things started. If 20 people came with a $50 deposit (refundable if the deal doesn't happen) we would have $1000 to start. If we got 40 people then we'd have $2000 to start. So I plea to my fellow Maxima owners if you want this wing act like it, I'm sure evreyone here could find $50 in 2-3 weeks. In the meantime if Shadow could start asking around and getting some rough figures we could have an idea of what we're getting ourselves into. So from today start pinching those pennies and lets get a Type II wing replica. And while we're at it lets address some of the issues of the existing Stillen Type II wing, (small led, bad mounting holes, etc.)

Stillen's doesn't do that, right?

Jeff (Shadow) and I are working on a few projects together one is the type II. Don't be surprised if you see something like that before Christmas. Jeff when you read this you may want to expand on it a little bit more and let our Maxima peeps know what we are working on.

Let's just say that once I'm done, you'd be able to pretty much buy everything from one source. Body kit, hoods (carbon fiber and fiberglass), fenders, wings. All of these will be custom made for Maximas and will be priced competitively. Other than that, not much to say.

I'm not worried about hitting price points. I'll price them at whatever I need to in order to make quality products. Quality is more of my concern. If some people don't want to pay, oh well. But I'm not here to rip people off either. After I found out just how much Sarona and Fiber Images pockets and how little it costs to produce products better than theirs, I realize that there's more money than I thought in this business.

Well hell yes. I am glad that you two are considering making the type II. You have made me one happy hoe.
Shadow and Custommaxima.com.....you two are now known as the Maxima Pimps,
I am so glad to see someone make QUALITY products at decent prices, without trying to screw anyone over. Can't wait to deal business with you in the VERY near future.
