need help with gauges

I'm at the point where I need to get the lines through the firewall for my gauges. Problem is I need to drill new holes to fit the connector line for the EGT gauge and hose line for the BST gauge. Maybe I got crappy(basically worn out) drill bits because when I tried to drill the hole, it wouldn't go through. The previous hole in the firewall was done for me by a pro. Also, the instruction for the EGT gauge states I need to drill a hole into the exhaust manifold? Can someone give me clarify this for me? Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I'm a newbie to the DIY work. Thanks.

What gauges did you get? Autometer? or another brand?
I'm thinking of getting the DIN HKS gauges...

I got the Apexi EL series gauges. They look tight. However, I had to modify the guage pod a bit to fit the Apexi gauges.

You'll have to tap the y pipe or drill into the exhaust manifold (like what Matt did) for your EGT probe.
