I have a problem

I have a situation to where my car wont start. When the key is in the on position everything turns on but no power goes to the starter. But on the other hand the starter can be manually jumped and the car runs fine. Any ideas...

Sounds like a dead battery.

i think theres a mechanical section on this site...but whatever i'm not a "flaming type of person so i can care less...anyway, i also think it may be the battery. alot of times the battery will have more than enough juice to turn on all the little lights and gizmos inside the car (radio, lights, climate, headlights, wipers etc...) but it wont have enough juice to actually turn the motor. try turning your headlights on, if the headlights severly dim when you turn the key then most likely its the battery...

Why not get the battery tested @ AutoZone, after that, get he starter tested.
What year is the car? And what do you meant by jumping the starter? Could be a bad ignition switch as well. We need more information please.

Get the battery tested at your local autoshop. If that isn't the problem have them do a free diagnostic.(Autozone is a place that does this.) Be sure to write down the codes, but it sounds like the battery to me.

Well if i give the starter the power directly the car starts right up. The battery isnt low on power at all. Everything on and nothing dims at all.

How did you find out it was ignition switch? What type of sounds did it make.
I have 95 maxima, and I have the following. I can turn the key on, everything powers on, but when I turn to start the engine, all I hear is single click where the switch block is, the car does not start. A day before, the car started 2 out of 15 times, so the started/engine part is working. I have read that it is either ignition switch or something in switch block. The strange part is that I replaced my ignition switch 6 months ago.
Any has any ideas?

Thanks,
Anton

My 95 was doing the same thing, did some investigating, discovered the wire running from the solenoid to the Starter motor was exposed, i could actually make the car start and not start at will. So it can be alot of things, starter, solenoid, ignition switch, battery etc etc, just test and start eliminating things.

Anton, welcome to the boards, ti govorish po russki ?

anyways do you hear the starter turning ? if not it could be already dead, the ignition switch is 30 dollars at the dealer, and not hard to replace, and i have heard people of hearing the same type of clicking and replacing the ign.sw. soolved their problem, you may want to start there first.

There are basically a few things you will hear about bad starts:
1) bad groud wires from the starter to the battery (and tranny)
2) ign, sw.
3) dead spot on the starter/starter in the process of dying
4)battery that has enough power to turn the lights on but not to turn the starter over.

with the key in and the car on ACC, but not running, try turning all the lights on, radio, defroster, hazards, and press the brake pedal, at the same time try opening the window, if it struggles then the battery is definitely going bad

just get it tested, its free...
