Is it safe to take out the fuel pump fuse every night....
I'm not sure, something about it doesnt seem practical. I'm looking for a way to keep my car safe, dont have much faith in alarms, except maybe the one that pages you but still dont trust it.

Open the panel on the lower left of your dash, look at the diagram printed on it, pull the fuse on the right, I think it's the third one up, with the supplied fuse puller, walla, no more fuel pump...

Its fuse 15A, oh and medicsonic, the car is parked in a low clearance 20 car garage, getting a tow truck in there is impossible.
Its also pretty interesting which cars park in there with me(2000 750IL, 2000 Deville, 2001 Expedition, 99 and 96 Fully loaded Pathfinder SE's) so logic tells me they have more attractive stuff to mess with but I'm still paranoid.

Install a fuel pump kill switch (use a toggle switch) rather than pull the fuse constantly. You can also tie another kill switch to the ignition. I'd recommend the second method (ignition)

Medic, my point was that the 750 still costs about $70K or so, the Deville is still around $40K, bit less for the Expedition, and about $20K for the 99 Path. A lot of stuff to draw them away from mine. The Garage across has a 2000 GLE, 2001 Camry V6, 2001 Grand Cherokee, 2000 Accord, 2001 Volvo S40, 2000 Towncar, so a lot of interesting stuff to hopefully draw them away from mine. Oh, almost forgot, the building after mine has a 2K2 SC 430, 2K1 Escalade, 2001 325I, and a 2000 ML 320.

I would still feel less safe if parked amongst a Mercedes, Deville, PAthfinder,etc. Why? Because I own a very popular car, so there will be alot of people wanting to buy hot parts from it. The Mercedes may be more appealing, but the hot parts market for it ins't going to be as big as ours because there's less of them out there.
One thing I do comfort myself with is, since the car is a stick, how many car thieves know how to drive a stick?

Yes guys, I've seen his garage, and I would be paranoid too since his 3rd gen has been a victim of theft before and yea there is a 740iL like 10 feet from his car along with a bunch of other nicer cars. NYC GXE, are you going to be parking your 3rd gen on the street now?

Look up "maximum5spd" he has a 5 speed max (duh!) and it's an 89 model! He lives I'd say about 15 minutes from NYC GXE and his car was stolen although recovered later. If anyone knows Brooklyn, you guys need to understand that this is the Maxima hunting ground for thieves. A bunch of members who live there have been victims, 190hpKilla's rims were stolen, NYC GXE, grille and stereo (?), psing23, rims center caps, maximum5spd - entire car. I'm sure there is more. I have heard of many cases of maxima people having their cars hit by thieves, taking anything from rims or BOSE to leather seats and air bags. I'm glad I don't live in Brooklyn anymore..

Nope. I think having a stick helps to discourage thieves. If only 10% of a given population knows how to drive stick, then it just goes to follow that at most somewhere around 10% of thieves would know how to drive stick. But since this is Brooklyn we're talking about, I guess anything goes. I know that if someone really wants your car, they will get it, Lojack, Viper alarm, or whatever. My aim is simply to make it as discouraging as possible, make them work for it. Use the club, park in a very visible location, etc.

I think taking the fuse out is a good idea. Best way to deter your car from being stolen. While it's true that if a thief really want to steal your car, he can tow it away. However, I don't think many thieves go around with a tow truck with them. It's just too much of a hassle, they would rather move onto another car that's easier to steal. Time is crucial to car thieves. They want to get in and out of there as fast as they could. Most thieves would just move onto a easier target if given the choice. I don't have much trust in alarms too. People just don't pay much attention to alarms anymore. They probably think it's just another over sensitive car alarm.

to tell you the truth...the fuse idea is very "old"....before my cousin was locked up in '97 (for auto theft in the Jamaica Queens area of NY), he and his partners used to carry spare fuses cause people have been doing the "fuel pump fuse" thing for years. it might catch a theif for a few seconds when they first break in and the car won't start, but an experienced theif knows probably every method of getting around things...IMO I don't think there is any 100% way to prevent the actual theft, but Lojak is probably the best way to "attempt" successful recovery!

If had a dummy fuse(blown)in the there think a thief would replace it.what about taking all of the good fusr replacements and hide them how many thiefs would carry new fuses mostly in a small town like mayberry where i live at

You assume that all thiefs are pros. I've had cars I've owned before broken into, and they were definitely amatuer. The 1st time, they took my cell phone. Stupid thing is, the base had all the electronics. The thief just took the handset, which was useless without the base. 2nd time, my door was busted open, but the car was still there. I think the thief saw the stick and gave up. 3rd of all, some insurance companies reduce your rate for driving a stick because they are less likely to be stolen than autos.
I'm not saying my car being stolen won't ever happen, I'm just reducing the chance of it happening.
