Rear Window Tint Issues

I got my Max tinted and I've got some strangeness on the rear window, I'm looking for some opinions.

The problem is that along each heater/defroster line there is a thin air space. It is very small, and you can't see this space from outside or inside during the day unless you look very close. At night, however, headlights reflect off of this space and make a nasty vertical pattern when I'm looking through my rear-view.

Is this typical of all tinted cars with rear window defrost, or did the tint shop screw up?

I'm going to go back to the shop anyway because of a couple of bubbles and some scratches, I want to know what to tell them about the defroster line issue....

I don't think he's talking about the dot matrix.... But about the tint, mine does the same thing. It bothered me a first but I'm getting use to it. I don't know if it's low quality tint or what, it just doesn't adhere to the defroster lines.

I know exactly what you're talking about... You'll just have to get used to it.

should find a better tint shop to do it. mine don't have that problem on the rear window defrost lines at all. i think all they need to do is to use a heat gun on those area more or something.

So we've got 1 vote for search the forums (I have problems with my defroster lines, not dot matrix, btw), 2 votes for live with it, and 1 vote for get a better tint shop.

Any other 4th Gen owners with defroster lines and rear window tint have the same headlight reflection pattern problem that NineOhSE, SilverGLE, and I do?

the tint shop i went to completely fubared my defroster. I believe it doesnt work at all now, maybe one or 2 lines. I actually watched the defroster burn right through the tint in 2 small places on a cold morning.

that sucks! i would be pissed off and would be back at the tint shop in no time.

I have a 5th gen, but my tint has a very very small amount of air around the defrost lines, come to think of it, it was the same way on the explorer. sadly, i think you will have to either see if they can reduce the amount of air or live with it.

Its too late now. But at the time the shop
(Audiovision) was jackin me around and although it had warranty they kept my car all day until past closing and said it was done...so I'd go pick it up and wait on it cause they hadn't started yet.
I hope the whole business goes bankrupt.

This is the second car I've had tinted, so I've learned to live with it... I don't think it's possible to eliminate the glare 100%, just lessen it.

Sounds like it's a typical problem.

Damn. I'm going to get the back window redone anyway (because of some scratches in the film) and I'll talk to the installer about it...

Thanks all for comments.

I imagine I'll probably have to have my whole rear window replaced. That is one of the last things I ever see myself purchasing though because its probably a 300 dollar piece and I don't use my defroster anyway. Garage ftw.
