Just an idea, but anyone ever try plugging a small electric space heater into a 12v power inverter? I have seen 750watt space heaters and 1000w power inverters at walmart. Wouldn't want to try to use it before starting the car, but it would provide almost instant heat after the car was running.

Bad idea. It's already been discussed.... 1000w/12v = 83A. 83A of draw will kill any alternator and/or battery in short time.
