For you electrical techs, defective OEM oil pressure gauge>>>>
Well it's that time again, time to work on friend/family car. Doing this alone can be a pain within its self. I have a 95 Honda Passport and the OEM oil pressure gauge is not working, it also has a oil light and it's working correctly. So basically with the oil presure gauge not working, it's either the sender, harness, or the gauge itself.
1)I unpluged the oil pressure sender and ground the harness to see if the gauge would sweep to the max reading and it didn't. I was praying that would have work, replace the sender and I'm done.
2)I removed the instrument cluster to get to the gauge, hopeing to find a loose wire or something obvious, nothing. If you're firmiliar with one of these newer type electronic clusters it has a electrical paper grid sheet to power up all the gauges within the cluster.
3)I didn't have a working multi-meter, instead I had one of those self powered test light. So I plug the sender back in and check what I was getting on this electrical paper grid. With the ignition off I was getting a ground, with the ignition on I was getting power but the test light was dim. If I had the multi-meter I would have known exactly how much voltage I was getting, and if I had to take a guess I would say it was "probably" about 6-8v due to the brightness of the light. If need be I can remove the cluster and check it with a working multi-meter
4)So this is where I'm at, assuming it's not the sender and the harness being ok I'm starting to lead towards a defectice gauge. My next question, do they sell the gauge alone or do you have to get the entire cluster?
5)So what you think, help a brother out.
