Widest Tire on 18 x 7

Already searched and didn't find definite answer.

Does anyone know what the widest size is that I can put on 18 x 7's.

225/40/18 or 235/40/18

235/40/18 would be safe...I have 235/45/17 BFG's on my OEM 17's so 235's should be ok.

Sure that will work? I'm worried about bad tire wear.

You shouldn't have bought 18 X 7 rims.

235 on 7" is pushing it. I would go 225 on 7".

Trust me, I didn't try to order 18 x 7. They ran out of 18 x 8. And they aren't making anymore.

235s should fit easily. I have 245/45s on my 17x7s and they fit fine.

You want a 215 or 225mm section on a 7" width. You're are squeezing the beads together if you go with a 235 or 245mm section.

245 is unsafe. If you don't believe me, check what tire and rim manufactures and any legitimate tire shop tells you.

Re: Widest Tire on 18 x 7

People say 235 will fit fine. Yes they will fit. But is it the right thing to do? Will 235s on a 7" rim do anything besides protect the rim from curb rash? For performance, I don't thing 7" is wide enough to support the 235 enough to jusify the added width. To me it's asking the tire to behave on rim it's not really designed to be fitted on. If you can find a tire in the 225 width that's correct, I would just do that. It's much more in the range that's it's designed for, should cost less and have less "squirm" when you really ask the tire to perform.

Hmm, I guess you're right. I did the conversion and 245mm is 9.6 inches. Although they arn't super low profile at 45% so I hope im alright

Thanks for all the help. I'm going with 225/40/18. Now I just gotta decide on a All-Season Ultra High Performance Tire. Any suggestions.

Oh, and I have attached a pic of the wheel.
(Look Familiar? Reason I got stuck with 18x7)

As far as Ultra High Performance All Season tires go, I think that the Yokohama AVs Dbs are supposed to be really good...you should check them out at Tire Rack, they got very high ratings.

While we're on the rim width/tire width topic, how would 235's be on 7.5" rims? Is this still pushing it? Or is this okay?

Thanks ppl
