I would say, yes, I would get rid of it for a new TL Type-S

But I'd give it to a family member or good friend so I could visit it every so often

The Maxima stays. I have only had it a year, and it would never financially make sense for me to sell it to get something else just to get better gas mileage.

Nah, I've put too much time, effort and $$ into my maxima just to get it where it is right now. If I were to sell it, I'd be taking a serious L... I'm now averaging in the the mid 20's in mpg, and I could probably get more if I take of these heavy-*** 6th gen rims and rock my original 15's. When 93 hits $5.00 and above in my area, (it's $4.43 now), I'll just take the train to work and park my max in the driveway...

My 2001 AE has been paid off for almost 5 years, it is in excellent condition and I still like the car.

It is cheaper to keep it than to replace it, even considering $5-6 gas.

I don't drive enough to justify getting another car solely based upon fuel consumption. The registration on the Maxima gets cheaper every year and insurance is cheaper than a new car.

The car is old enough that now I can buy parts at Pep Boys/ Autozone etc instead of a stealership. I can also take advantage of part outs of wrecked Maximas.

With a new car, you are paying the sales tax, delivery fees, and other expenses. Naturally, I would tint the windows on a new car. The tint on the Maxima was paid for long ago.

So, the fuel economy of a new small car isn't enough of an improvement to justify the increased OVERALL costs of ownership.

Almost $4.50 a gallon. Wait till it reaches $10 a gallon. 4 cylender cars gonna cost more than V6 and V8. Now people will be loving thier fuel efficent cars.

I just got rid of mine for the bmw. Funny thing is I still miss the maxima, it was a great car. The 5er feels like way bigger compared to the maxima.

the only way i get rid of my maxima is if it blow the **** up, and then ill buy another one, and gas mileage differs by how you drive, my buddy has a 2008 scion tc and it gets ****ty mileage like 24 on the highway

Im considering buying an old (early 90s) civic/accord/corolla/camry that would get 30+ mpg but thats mainly for a winter beater car. I will NEVER get rid of my max, hell, Im on my second 4th gen and im only 21. If I drive conservatively I can get 25-28 mpg which I dont complain with.

i haven't had my 4th gen for that long, but i just love it a lot. it needs some work and i don't see me getting rid of it anytime soon.

Gas prices are only going to rise until we find an alternative source.
LPG Is pretty big here in Australia, Government gives a $3'000 rebate on LPG installations, some people actually MAKE money off it and save 60% on fuel.
Prices here are approx $1.50 - $1.70 PER LITRE!!!
LPG is approx. 60 cents per litre.

If I drive like an idiot, I get 550km, drive nicely, I get 650km out of a 55 litre tank of 98octane. Not many V6s that can deliver that, not that I know of anyway, and I sure as hell could'nt ever go back to 4 cylinders.

Turbo 4cyl?
4cyl w/DOHC VTEC?

To me both are more fun than the VQ and can get much much much better gas mileage. A 90-97 Accord w/an H22 will run neck and neck w/a 4th gen Max in the 1/4, but gets about 25% better gas mileage city & highway.

As soon as I get this axle/wheel bearing issue sorted out I am putting the Max up F/S... it is getting too crazy.
