Rusted hosthot headers

So I was doing an oil change and got a chance to inspect everything under the car and I noticed my hotshot headers were prettly badly rusted. It didnt look that bad a few months ago. I have a cattman catback thats been on much longer than the headers and no rust on that thing...Is the quality of the HS headers bad? I mean Im just concerned that over time the rust is gonna be so bad there will be patches of holes in the ypipe/header. Has anyone else with HS headers experienced this? I got mine used by the way with "1k miles on them"

Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, no such thing as rust proof. Heat and weather conditions/contamination all play a factor.

I figured it should go in the All Motor section, sorry....go ahead and move it to the 5th gen section if thats more appropriate

Quoted from Brian Catts:

"4. I have nothing bad to say about Hotshot headers, but their mild steel, MIG-welded headers were never in quite the same league as the stainless steel, TIG-welded Cattman parts"

Looks like since they are not stainless steel, they're all the more prone to rust. I think I should take them off...since I have no pics the best I can describe the current condition is small bubbles of rust. Really hoping it wont get worse though. I think it would discourage buyers when I take them off too...

Didn't realize they were mild steel (I have Cattman ) They will continue to corrode, albiet slowly, unless you do something to stop it. If you have the means, I personally would pull them off and send them out to get coated. I know it is a lot of work to do so though, and add's to the cost you already paid for the headers.

Moving to general discussions btw.

mtrai...it sucks man. Im gonna pick up a set of cattman headers. These HS ones make a "fluttering" noice upon deceleration also. Im never buying used stuff again. Are his headers for the 5.5 still on back order? Atleast I know I'll be getting a quality product...

Also...whats a reasonable price to sell the HS headers for?

=)

yea...I priced them at $350 firm and so many people wanted them, some even offering more than I wanted. But I have a local buyer for them. They arent even THAT bad in terms of rust, but I just didnt want to have to worry about them getting worse. Who knows, mabye they wont
