Lojack question

I want to get lojack for my maxima and have question for those who have it.

How much to install and how much per month you pay? Because their website www.lojack.com does not have any info about pricings.

I called lojack and if I remember right just the lojack was about $500 and lojack with an alarm was about $800. A little to expensive for me. Don't know about monthly fees.

Thats funny, when I had a SUV, had Lojack in it and found the device 5 minutes after the guy left! Can't hide stuff in MY car!

Seriously though, look under your steering column. Thats where mine was, but it may be different now (this was like 5 years ago) just a small black box. Mine had the same number that was on my remote for the alarm.

last question, if I get lojack as an adition to my stock alarm,w ill i get some discounts from my insurance for having lojack? It is not 911 for me to get it, since car is always parked in secure basement parking lot of my building. Just wanted to be carefull since I go out all over NYC area.

Thanks!

The Nissan dealerships in my area offer LoJack for $595 installed. There are no monthly fees. It is basically a car locator for the police, so you don't need the one with the alarm, unless your car doesn't already have an alarm. They don't allow you to be present during the installation, because they don't want you to know where it's installed. You'll eventually find it if you know your car very well or perform your own maintenance on it.

Most insurance co's will discount you for the highest level of protection only. Does not affect liability rates.

example:
club = 5% off comprehensive coverage
or
alarm, passive = 7% off comprehensive coverage
or
alarm, active =10% off comprehensive coverage
or
kill switch = 10%off comprehensive coverage
or
LOJAC = 20% off comprehensive coverage

i know it aint under the steering column as I been under there a few times. i want to make sure the thing works tho. if i call the cops and report my car stolen, do you think they would be mad when they found the car in my driveway?

If you are ready to pay a fee for a false alarm, go ahead and waste some cop's time.

I wouldn't get lojack because it is an easy way for Cops to find you. It is, if I understand it correctly, basically a form of a gps unit that the police can see where you are, what direction you are going in and how fast you are going. I don't want to give the police this much power. And to all those who say "it will never happen" look at the WTC, nothings impossible. I refuse to help big brother locate me.

It makes sense, just imagine (for whatever reason) you have to run from the cops. Do you want that thing in your car. Better to be safe than sorry.

At least you're thinking about the future.

when your car gets stolen do you have to call lojack to activate it or do you have to just file a police report and they activate it for you?

Do you also have to get it serviced every so often to see if it works?

If you register something with the police, i.e. lojack, it will go in your car "record" they should be able to see it when they run your plate.

Grow up kid, stop dreaming and go watch some "America's Dumbest Criminals" show, maybe that'll help you to get back to reality.

you dont register your lojack with the police you should probably learn about something before you speak on it. lojacks are registered with the company itself. .

Ohh, yeah and house alarms that signal the police aren't regestered with the police either! Lojack is registered with the cops, and anyone who tells you differently is lying. It is registered through Lojack, not you.

I think you're right. I had LoJack on my Altima and the insurance agent told me it has to be registered with police, otherwise how do they know you've got it?

Yep. And if people thought that it wasn't registered, the way the police system works, if you car got stolen, by the time the police would be able to be comprehend that your car has lojack, it will already be in pieces. The police need all the time and warning they can get.

when you buy a lojack it comes with a certificate that you show your insurance agency. you also have a card that you carry with you. i can almost gaurantee you that cops do not know you have a lojack until you report your car stolen

This is what I just found - "The Lojack unit(transmitter) is a randomly hidden unit in your vehicle. It's a small device, about the size of a chalkboard eraser that can be hidden in several different places in your vehicle. During the installation, the VIN (vehicle ID number) is registered with Lojack and the police"
