I have a 1995 Maxima SE 5-spd in search of a *rebuilt* transmission. I'm thinking this would be less expensive than having mine rebuilt, or replaced new. (Save on labor with the former. Save on parts cost with the latter.) I would also have a warranty and peace of mind with a rebuilt unit. Anybody know where I can get one? Your thoughts? Thank you for your help.

I dont no if you will be able to find a rebuilt one,

but I think your best bet would be to find one out of a low mileage Max from a Junk yard.Check out http://www.car-part.com for a good selection.

My tranny just died also. That makes 3-4 of us in the past couple weeks. I just don't think the Maxima 5spds can handle the torque. Not only is my differential drivers-side axle bearing and seal shot, but the input/? shaft bearing destroyed itself and has locked up the tranny.

Check out http://www.woodfins.com, Woodfins Auto Recycling, for some used 5spds. There are a few 99 (low mile - under 20K) trannys for at or under $1000. They come with 1 yr warranties free, up to 3 yrs for another $180 or so. Good deal. And the trannies are Nissan-built. I've never liked rebuilds because they're never quite the same. For a similar price as a rebuild (at least what I believe my rebuild will cost), I'm going used...and upgrading to a limited slip differential-equipped canadian 5spd.
