Got smoked by a Mustang V-6 on the Highway today !!

Today after school I was coming home on the interstate and my friend in his 'stang V-6 happened to merge on at the same time as me. I eventually I got up next to him, and we counted down. I turned off O/D and gunned it. About 2 seconds later I see him fly past me. We do this about 4-5 times, everytime he raped me ! Sounds truely pathetic huh? Well, not really. Here are the stats of both our cars:

My '95 Maxima SE Autotragic
- Popcharger intake
- HEAVY system
- Brother
- Backpacks

2000 Mustang V-6 5spd
- ECU "Superchip" Upgrade
- CAI
- Dual exhausts
- Brother
- Backpacks

Even though he has all that, I still feel ashamed. Get this; his brother came up to me later during bball tryouts and said "Hey why didnt you race us, my brother was waiting for you" And he was serious ! How embarrasing. Well, I am ****ed off at my Max, and impressed at that Mustang.

I need a 5spd ...

Those new stangs are fast. They tested the 2000 V-6 5spd stang 0-60 @ 7 seconds flat. Geez.

Jeff, I know right. At least he didn't think I raced him I may have SOME dignity left for the Max.

You lost because you basically had no mods. I wouldn't call a popcharger intake a worthy mod. I had a popcharger before and there was no gain at all. You need a CAI and y-pipe. Then, I'm sure you could take him. With y-pipe, cai, and cat-back exhaust, I took out V6 Mustang with no problems. That's before I had the VB mod too.

Mustangs

I don't really think stangs are fast. Your problem is extra weight. Plus you have no effective mods. Get a y-pipe, and you will smoke him. I went to track yesterday, and the GT stangs were running mid 15. That is terrible. Remeber you have to do everything possible not to let domestics beat you on any road.

In a 5spd maybe but not in an auto since you can launch at higher than 2K rpm. It is proven a pop intake slows off the line performance in an auto especially with no other mods. You should have the intake/y-pipe combo to get the real benefit of an intake. You ran a 14.8 in a Max with only a pop style intake so I assume you are 5spd?

NyCeMaXiMa: Nobody cares if you smoked a V-6 'stang foo.

Do you guys really think I will be able to feel the difference of a Y-pipe on the highway when the rest of my exhaust is stock ?

Also, don't 5spd Max's pull alot harder on the highway then automagic max's ? MmMmMm...5spd

Do you actually believe that your intake cut .7 seconds off your 1/4 mile time? You don't think your driving skill, more experience, and perhaps track and weather conditions had anything to do with it? If an intake could really cut .7 seconds off of a 1/4 mile time, then that means when I get my intake I should be running 13.9s... with just intake and y pipe... lol

The thing w/ Stangs............

Those cars are so restricted that any mods they do greatly increaces there hp/torque. Thats chip alone adds 32 (I think thats what I read in Jegs) hp.

Next time just through some glass out and ruin his day. J/K

So would you agree that the 2k2 Max Auto can beat that 2k V6 5spd then?

I just want to state that I traded my 00' Mustang GT in on my Maxima. My GT ran 14.0 @ 99mph with only a filter and no cats! I love the maxima, but it is not faster than my old GT, so I am not going to bash the stang along with you guys.

Black019, the newer cars are far superior to the older 5.0's. They have decreased cubic inches and increased hp. One other thing, the stock auto tranny, during hard driving, will chirp going into second gear during its hard shift. Thats one thing I bet all automatics owners wish their car would do!!

Ditto, i've been able to do this several times on the 2k2 Max as well.

However, it's getting harder to do it lately. I think the tires are starting to do it's job of actually providing traction

Pop vs CAI

Hey guys,
What difference will the CAI make over a regular cone filter? I mean does it give better time and better HP? I know the basis of it using colder air but just curious about how much of a difference it makes. Maybe eventually I will turn my cone into a CAI if it proves more effective.

One other thing though wouldnt the extended pipe used on a cai cause more distance for arir to flow and erxtra bends in it's way to get there?

He is a 5spd Manual, With ECU upgrade, CAI,+ exhausts. And he has NO system and I have a HEAVY-@SS system. He would give tons of automagic people here a run for their money.

Some of this info I got purely from reading articles (so don't flame me)

CAI gives low end throttle response, and very little to no high end.

POP takes away a little bit of low-end, and gives up high

CAI Sounds more like a vacuum or sucking noise

POP Sounds more like a deep girgle.

I only payed $50 for my pop-charger. Uses K&N paper too. 180+ Is TOO expensive for an intake IMO.
