Sport Compact Car article...

Did anyone see the 'Techno Babble' article in the September 2000 edition. The guy discusses the possibility of putting the crank from a VG30DE into a VQ30DE. Here's part of the article:

While the VQ30 gets it's 3.0 (2988 cc actually) from a big 93-mm bore and a tiny 73.3 stroke, the older VG30 uses a smaller 87.1 bore and much longer 83.1 stroke. So putting a VG crank in a VQ would give you a still undersquare 93 x 83.1-mm, resulting in a 3387 cc engine. A VQ34DE would inevitably end up making quite a bit more power than a VQ30. In fact, 300 naturally aspirated horsepower doesn't seem out of the question.

Is this possible or is it just a "that'd be cool if it could be done" sort of thing?

I have no idea myself but that sounds very interesting for sure!

Let's not get into this again The crank won't fit. The main bearing journals aren't in the same positions if I remember correctly..

But could you have a crank custom made to fit the VQ, that would give you a longer stroke?

On one of the tech pages, it says "How To Build A VQ:by Don in Texas".
It's still has 'Coming Soon' in red below it though. I'm very interested what this will be.
