question

I tried to search Google for it but no luck - probably I don't know how to search for this. Anyway:

Why all (or most) transversal engines have the intake in the back of the engine?

I was thinking that the first transversal engines were inline and they chose to put the headers in the front to avoid the heat effect on the firewall THEN ... your suggestion.
Any other ideas?

it all has to do with packaging.
the intake is curved to the rear so the hood can be lower in front than the rear.
simple logic and it works

More room in the rear, the trans is lower then the belt driven accessories which are mounted on the front side of the engine. Simple logic for sure.
