CNG conversion

Anyone, any opinions about it?
I'm sure this will be one of the steps towards independence from oil.
Anyone thought about it?
Anyone did it?

In Europe they do it commonly (conversions), how do you see it here in the states?

I know you lose space in the trunk, you have the fear of an explosion, it takes longer to refuel but those will not probably matter that much when the oil price will climb further (not in the near future considering the global economic slowdown, but still ...).

You suck. You beat me to the thread. Well, actually, I wasn't going to start a thread, but yesterday I had a good conversation with my uncle about some political ****, and it all came about from him telling me that my shop needs to get on the front of this technology asap.

We need an .org member who can speak (taiwan?) So that we can just pillage all of the pre-existing information from the guys on the taiwan cefiro boards that have been running it for a few years.

I suck?!? I went to med school in a country where more that 50% of the cars are converted to this already ...
The thing is that I've never thought about it seriously until a few months ago when oil reached 140, and the peak oil became a possibility.
I think that if someone gets to do it now because of foresight will be much better than later because of need. Just my opinion!

This topic was discussed a while back. Search the archives. Basically there are CNG conversion kits available in the US, but they are very limited and mostly only for Domestic commercial truck applications. There are kits available for the passenger cars including the Maxima in other countries, such as Australia and Western Europe and South America and Africa. One Australian member has done this to his Max. However, in the US, the EPA has to approve the kits and their installation. This has not happened yet, so anyone who does this in the US will face a hefty fine -- more than can be justified by any savings at the pump. If that changes, I would be one of the first people to jump at it.

LOL someone to speak Taiwan? You mean Chinese

I have seen CNG converted taxis in China, but they completely lose their trunk and the drivers complain there is no power either.

this technology is useless if you don't have a cheap filling station near by. I looked into this but up here in new england area, it is pricey and doesn't justify the conversion. maybe in the near future but i doubt it, i put my money on hydrogen.

Well, I thought it was an idea but I never would considered doing it to my Maxima, I figured that since it took premium gas that CNG could be a problem. Overall I think it's a good idea once it becomes legal. We have to break away from those oil companies somehow. Did anyone hear that OPEC decided to further LIMIT the production of oil? Those idiots don't want oil to go below 100 dollars a barrel.

Re: cng conversion

I have converted my diesel car in to Cng. I am happy with the performance and my contribution towards the environment. cng conversion has also cut my fuel cost.
