Have your mods ever saved you from an accident?

Just like the title of the thread says...

Have you ever been INCHES from hitting somebody with performance brake pads or a BBK on your car, and you know you would have been screwed if your brakes were stock?

How about finding yourself entering into a turn too fast, but your upgraded suspension helped you keep the car in control?

I feel it's important to emphasize that modding isn't always about fun. Automobile modifications definitely have some practical, real world use, and can help you avoid an accident in certain situations. If your modding has ever saved your behind, share your stories here.

I wasnt paying attention and my hawk hps's left me inches from a 911 turbo which still had it's temp tags.

Ever since then brakes are the first thing any car i buy gets treated to

Well I don't know about saving my life, but after upgrading the springs/struts, added a FSTB and a RSB and with good summer tires, I can take on/off ramps 20-30mph faster than I was able to stock.

I love my BBK, but I gotta be careful not to hit them too hard. Could have the rear end kick out....last thing I need to do is stop fast sideways.

I once saw this CIVIC with a fart can muffler that helped him accellerate away from a possible collission.

Seriously......

no BBK accident, but when I wrecked my 96 Max if my front window wouldn't have been tinted I would have had a face full of glass

Had to swerve animals a few times on two lane backroads in FL going about 60. Pretty sure the outcome would have been more drastic had I not had my eibach/tokico setup and strut tower braces, can't wait to get some nice new bushings under there along with some thicker sway bars. I also LOVE my Hawk HPS/ Brembo setup, even though it's not BBK, it is still ridiculously better than the stock setup, even with stock ABS. I like having them there if I need them, though I haven't had to make any sudden stops recently that I can think of.

Not in the Maxima, but yes.

Cut a left rear tire down hitting road debris while driving across a bridge. Stiffer suspension and 225-width tires on 8.5" wide wheels (yes, I know that's half an inch above max recommended) made for minimal change in handling under normal driving. This is all the reason you need for choosing wheels that are wider than the "measuring width" for the tire size you have in mind when you upgrade the things that roll.

FWIW, I have also had a rear tire on an all-OE car go down (not a MAX either) with significantly reduced control being the result.

my HIDs allowed me to see a cop hiding at night and I slowed down in time. it didn't save me from an accident right there, but if i got a ticket, there would have been an accident involving my face and my dad's hand
