After looking back and taking this place for what it is, it doesn't feel like a sense of "community" when looking for parts on this forum. Rarely you find a person selling for the sake of lending a hand to a fellow member but ever since i've been here I can honestly say people tend to take advantage of each other when it comes to parts. I see ridiculous prices for things considered "hot buys" and its sad to witness such greed.
And yes I do realize its supply and demand and some of you might ***** and disagree but you forget the reason we came here in the first place, to help and be helped in the few things we care about the most; our cars. Not some camouflaged exploitable market
Don't get me wrong, i love this place. Can't let the pioneers of modifications and maintenance go forgotten for all they've contributed. Its just the small things that make a big difference.
/my .02 cents. take it as you wish
/ill probably get in trouble for this, but fck it.

(1) MOST (not all) parousing the FS sections are, for the most part, cheap-azz penny pinchers looking to buy items at desperate prices. Anyone looking to refute this fact, I implore you to hang around a few years and watch for the evidence.
(2) Those in dire need are indeed often sold the items at mafia-esque prices. I was looking for a single window switch/heater switch, and a member made an offer for his at nothing short of a completley INSULTING price.
There are a number of good sellers/buyers here...but to be honest, the term community kind of flies out the window in the FS section, but truth be told...buisness is buisness, community or not. Take or leave, FWIW. I've gotten some good deals, so I'll deal with the BS.

While I'm sure some people try to use junkyards to make a profit on here, and many other forums, I dont' always mind it. I live in an area where there are practically no Maximas or I30s in junkyards so for me to get those parts would be a huge hassle. Some of the prices may be overinflated. But that's when I pass up on it and another one comes along in a week or so. But if they want to go through the trouble to find the car in the junkyard, pull the part and ship it to my door, then I don't mind paying for it. For me it's kind of a "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" deal.
i knoooo my question is WAYYYYYY off topic ! but i need a answer ASAP
I HAVE A 2000 MAXIMA 5 SPEED THE THE BEARINGS SOUND HORRIBLE SOO IM LOOKING 2 REPLACE MY TRANS. IVE ASKED AT A JUNK YARD AND THEY HAVE A 2000 SPD 5 TRANS FOR 800$ I WAS WONDERING IF A 95 TO 99 5 SPEED TRANS FITS THE 3.0 2000 MAXIMA ??

yes it will
back to the topic, I don't think overcharging. From prior experience if a part is prived too high buyers will just leave it because someone else will sell it for cheaper. Overall you can still get everything cheaper on here than a junkyard.
Some people feel their product is of higher value than others. I am always willing to negotiate prices. Nothing is ever set in stone. Money talks. And as Metal Maxima ssaid, in the f/s section, community is out the window. Do you think you are going to get a good deal on ebay cause you are a member and sell on ebay? Not a chance.
Not always true, 00vi prices for example.
I have seen and heard of SEVERAL members on the org getting them @ junkyards COMPLETE for around $80-150. on here the cheapest i've seen is around $225 shipped. Just my observation.
As an aside however; I recently bought a few small pieces on here for a very fair price. All in all I would agree that buyer discretion lies, as in all transactions, in the hands of the buyer.
Take it or leave it,
When I dont like the price, I PERSONALLY dont complain. I voice my opposition by ending the negotiation process with said seller and keeping my eyes open for what i'm looking for at a price I'm willing to pay. Actions (or lack thereof) speak louder than words.

You're right I oftentimes don't get the feeling of "community" here like I do at the Monte Carlo site I visit or the Saab site when that was my car of choice. Then theres the childish flaming and the countless threads talking about the best octane gas to use.
I moved to AL from KCMO and attended my first meet recently. The guys were great and one even offered to have a "house meet" in order to help others out with some of the harder repair jobs. But no one outside of me brought extra parts to swap or give away to members who may not have the funds to buy them.
I'm far from rich but fwiw I'd sooner give away a part that I have lying around collecting dust than have you pay out the butt from the dealer. Of course if it has to be mailed than the receiver should pay those costs, but that happens less and less nowadays.
Lastly, when I was in KS a friend needed a headlight for his 92 BMW 5 series. I found one in a junkyard, called his cell, (because we all traded numbers) confirmed that he still needed the part, and I bought it for him. That's the comraderie that's missing that we need to get back.

Me and my brother go to the junkyard every weekend to look for parts. We'll check the FS section to see what people need and let them know we can get it for them. 80% of the time I'll ask the buyer what they would like to spend for the item and go from there. For other items I'll look at what they are currently being sold for by other members and set the price accordingly. I see everything I sell as helping someone out because Im lucky enough to live a few miles from multiple junkyards and they arent.
hey mang, not everyone is greedy....
hell i gave my catback away for free to help out my friend who caught the mod bug who was short of money..

I'm not denying there's good people on this forum but i'm basing my first post on the majority of the stuff sold on here. Not trying to make anyone prove themselves as good people...we know who those are.
I like to do nice things. I have a used ebay catback bbk exhaust 5.5 gen. Free for anyone willing to pick up in chicago. Yes i know this should go to the classifieds but ehh.

I have a good salvage yard with cheap prices and by the time I get an IACV valve, rear valve cover, and rear coils, I will be well over 150. Not to mention an Apexi VAFC on top of it all putting it to about 300 (which in my opinion is necessary because it iwll run rich with the DEK injectors). Then factor in gaskets and all other items necessary to complete the swap.
That 300+ figure is just what it will cost me to gather my own parts for my own swap through a cheap salvage yard. If I were to sell all this complete, I would have to sell it for slightly more to account for the countless trips and hours spent at the salvage yard.
BUT, lets just humor this idea and say a COMPLETE 00vi swap can be obtained for $150 (80 is a joke, show me one person who got a complete swap for 80). Lets say after all the time of cathering parts at 150 I decide to still sell it for 150 for the benefit of everyone here.
Think about the size of the box needed to fit a LIM, fuel rail with injectors, UIM, throttlebody, IACV valve, all the **** attached to the UIM, rear valve cover, and rear coil packs. Now think about how much all of that weighs. I can tell you after trying to walk 1/8th of a mile out of the junkyard with my toolbox, UIM, LIM, and fuel rail digging into my shoulder, it's not a 5 lb item at all.
Recently I sold my stock airbox on here for next to nothing since I was going to trash it anyway, and all of those plastic peices cost me over 15 dollars to ship. Now think about shipping an entire 00vi swap. That has to be at least 70 dollars in shipping.
I'm getting a set of wheels off of a 280z (not from the org though) for my 1st gen for $25. the guy told me he had the car and parted it out completely and sold the shell, and had the wheels just sitting in a corner of his back yard for a few years. his wife started nagging him to remove the unsightly stack from the yard, so he's selling to me more as of " take it off my hands " kinda thing..
in short, it's all up to the buyer, you can tell by the ad and the price what the seller's motives are... I say you need what you need, and if you get stiffed w/ a high price, that's just part of it man.

I think as long as it's a good deal. A lot of the parts that you can get from some of these places, might still be in great conditition, and if you can sell it to another member for a cheap price why not. If I was in need of a part and it cost me an arm and a leg from the store, but at a cheap price here with in great condition I think it is good. However I don't agree if the person is just selling random crappy pars that don't work.
Honestly, where the parts came from is no one's concern but the buyer's, should something not work correctly. It is up to the buyer to determine what they feel is shady or not, a good deal or not, etc. If you feel there is gouging, don't buy the item.
As far as giving away items to friends who are modding, that's great. I'd give away anything to most of my friends. HOWEVER I don't know most of the people on the .org. Those I do know I've spent a total of probably ... around 10 hours with. I'm not going to pay money from my pocket to ship a part that I could sell to someone on a website that I've never met and never will.
Community is one thing, and this IS an online forum - but we all still live in the real world. So let's be realistic. No one is going to give stuff away on here.

Based on my experience, I have been hooked up with good prices on good parts from a number of members on here. I try as much as possible to reciprocate and hook people up on here with good stuff for good prices.
I've never had a bad experience buying or selling on the .org and If I had never bought/sold on the .org, I'd have a bunch of spare parts laying around going to waste and I would not have my car looking/running as great as it does.
I love the .org!
