Results from 194 Red LED in rear marker- cleared tails
i have a 97, so I cleared the lower portions of my tail lights a whiles ago. I removed the yellow turn signal piece, the reverse light diffusors as well as the small red side markers in the rear tails next to the turn signals. I did not use the florescent light covers as a diffusor I just have the clear lenses so the light's inner workings and bulbs are exposed. I prefer this look to the florescent light cover look. I was running red 194 bulbs (after trying many brands) in there before but got sick of the pink look verses the red main tails. So, I decided to give 194 LED's a try. After reading Clee130's post on APC LED's in the 4 gen forum with his dash gauges, I decided to get something different. I went onto ebay and bid on some 194 LEDs. I got them today in the mail, and installed them. They were in japanese packaging and definately not APC. Cost about $16 for 2 after shipping. At first one didnt work and I remembered, on yea its an LED, so polarity matters. I put them in, and my first reaction was wow. The light was a pure red, that was very bright. Infact it did its job almost too well, that its was so pure red that the tail lights look pink now! I think the wavelength is right at 680 nanometers, which is the purest form of red. The dispersion pattern is excellent with no noticeable hot spots or dead spots from all angles.
Another plus is that LED's take signicicantly less energy then bulbs do. This means more power to my stereo (oh boy an entire 10 watts extra!!)
The best part, is that when the LEDs are not illuminated, they are clear. This way, in the day time my 1/2 red 1/2 clear tail lights are completely red at the top, and completely clear at the bottom. it looks excellent.
If I can find a 1156 bulb or LED that can be clear while off, and yellow while on, then thats my next set of bulbs for my rear turn signals. I will also may try to replace as many other bulbs with LED's to save on energy.
I usually dont do cosmetic mods, but this one was cheap enough and satisfied my pink light that doesnt match pet peeve, so its worth it.

LED not really cosmetic
Notice the majority of trucks and buses have led lamps in the rear.
Cadillac was the first auto to do it. Now take a look at the new S-Class Benzes.
It's like anything else, auto mfg. resist anything that will cost more, but eventually they cave-in.

If you dont know who made the LED's, who did you buy them from? I have the altezzas and have the same problem (pink v. red) thanks for the input

-EUROLITE L.E.D.(#1157-Rear Park/Brake)=$7.50 Each-Bought New From http://www.aieonline.com
they make #1156 L.E.D's for turns...also...
-BLUE L.E.D. Bulbs(5-#194)Behind White Face Guage Overlays=$10 A Pair,3 Pair=$30.00-Bought New From http://www.autodynamic.com/
-BLUE L.E.D. Bulbs(#194)License Plate=$10 a Pair-Bought New From Ebay.com.
the L.E.D. #1156 turn signals because of them taking less power to work will trigger your fast blink(bulb blown)signal...but it looks cool....I just took mine out and put in regular white #1156 because through my ALTEZZAS they did not shine bright enough for me but I have the #1157 in all 4 of my brake/park lights in the rear...
and at night they look real deep red and mean....
